Senior Officer – Communication (Media Relations)

Salary and benefits : Monthly Gross Salary will be 50,754/- with other admissible benefits such as
festival bonus, provident fund, gratuity, medical benefit, group life insurance etc.
Job Summary
S/he, under supervision of the Manager - Communications will support him/her to develop
organisation’s media strategy and its framework to implement issue specific prioritized media
communication plans and media campaigns in collaboration with the programme counterparts.
S/he will look after the organisation’s active presence mainly in the national press mediums, i.e.
print and electronic media, offline and online news agencies and others press organizations/
institutions. S/he will maintain regular relationship and lobby with targeted media houses at
national level to push forward the organisation’s advocacy issues. Orient and train the
organisation’s staff on media issues, i.e. dealing and understanding the pulse of the press, feeding
the houses organisation’s advocacy issues, contents of media write ups, etc.
Key responsibilities include (not limited to)
Support to develop a media strategy for the organisation
- Support Manager, Communications to develop the organisation’s media strategy.
- Play active role in identifying related actors, make them operational to process the strategy
and its framework so that the players are influenced by/act in favour of the organization and
activate them as part of media frame work.
- As part of the media frame work map the local, national and international press and develop a
media database which will also support designing the relationship guideline with targeted
media.
- support to develop a media protocol for the organisation.
Nurture relationship with the press to mobilize it as and when required
- Established a strong and sustainable professional relationship with the targeted local and
national press.
- Influence/lobby with targeted media houses in favour of the organisation’s prioritised
advocacy issues at certain level.
- Organise media events, in collaboration with the programme team/s, of organizational
priorities and work on related media coverage.
- Support actively Manager- Communications to link Local Rights Programme (LRP) issues with
media communication initiatives at the national.

Explore, design and implement issues/ideas for media pitching.
Develop and publish press kits for prioritized media events.
Deal national and international press delegation in collaboration with ManagerCommunications.
Design content for proactive media campaign and reactive media communications and execute
media campaigns of the organization
- Identify organisation’s priorities of media campaign issues and its duration.
- Support Manager- Communications to design and implement the media campaign plan aligned
with programme campaigns.
- Generate contents for multi country campaign with support from Manager- Communications
and pitch the content in the media.
- Highlight (at national and international level) the organisation’s activities, achievements and
lessons of/from the multi-country campaigns to bring down the global attention on the country
Building organization’s capacity of media concerns
- Train programme and LRP teams members on
Effective media communications
Organising media events
Community Journalist Group
Media campaign
Preparing press kit
Media pitching
Extend support to the country E-FAST (Emergency Fast Action Support Team) and IHRT
(International Humanitarian Action and Resilience Team) International team, on media issues,
during emergency situations
- Pitch the organisation’s intervention in the press (if agreed), especially in the international
media
- Prepare/collect/edit materials, i.e. case study, report, article, etc. on the situation to share with
IHRT and pitch in the media
Required qualification and competencies
Education & Training





Masters in Mass-communication, Journalism, Social Science or a complementary degree
Good leadership qualities and administrative capabilities
Must be an excellent team player and experienced of managing a diverse team
Training on professional writing, i.e. media reporting, media article, case study/story, press
release, etc.
Training or experience on photography and videography will be an added advantage
Experience
At least 04 years of professional experience; 03 years in areas related to media communication in a
reputed organisation; experience of working in reputed media house/s will be an added advantage.

Technical Skills and Relevant Understanding/Knowledge







Excellent writing (for media) and public speaking in English and Bangla;
Strategic planning and budgeting of media events;
Understanding of policy advocacy issues and ways of its media exposure;
Understanding of development discourses (i.e. rights based and human rights based
development approaches);
Skills in training/orienting people on technical media issues;
Understanding of Women and Child Rights.
Advance computer and technological skill
