Manager
This role takes accountability for the retail operation, ensuring the efficient and effective running of the Retail
Department at all times.
Main responsibilities:
Oversee and be accountable for the operational running of the Retail Department within your branch.
Drive operational change within the Retail Department; demonstrating presence as a leader, motivating and inspiring your team through change.
Proactively plan for the short, medium and long term, working collaboratively with your Branch Manager to achieve Bettys Future Picture for Retail and People.
Take accountability for the retail budgeting process; putting plans in place to achieve sales, profits and other targets successfully.
Be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop yourself and your team.
Ensure that all customers receive outstanding customer service aligned to the
Bettys customer experience and Bettys service values; accountable for ensuring the brand standard is achieved by all of the retail team.
Fulfil Health and Safety and Food Hygiene responsibilities in accordance with
Bettys standards and legal obligations.
Be accountable for the recruitment and training of all team members and managers in your department.

Accountable for making sure the retail team has the right number of people with the right skills in the right places.
Promotes development initiatives and opportunities both within the branch and across Bettys branches.
Actively give and request feedback supporting peer-to-peer relationships.

Operations
Be present as a leader, role modelling standards and behaviours to instil excellence within your business area.
React to changes quickly and efficiently whilst maintaining communication with your team and the Branch Manager as appropriate.
Resolve any difficult issues that arise in an efficient and timely manner e.g. people issues, customer experience issues, food quality issues, equipment issues etc.
Work in a peer based manner utilising the skills of the management team to achieve your plans.
Accountable for the effective operation of day-to-day activity in the Retail
Department; working collaboratively with your management team to achieve this, and taking an active role when required.
Ensure a process is in place to ensure cleaning is carried out to standard, food and waste cost targets are met, and the accuracy of stock takes and ordering.
Proactively take action to remedy any problems encountered.
Planning for events; including special events, promotions etc, keeping your team abreast with plans and any changes to priorities.
Drive Results
Works collaboratively with Branch Manager and Bettys Retail Managers to achieve the Bettys Future Picture for Retail and People.
Accountable for the operational planning process and the strategic approach for the Department working with the Branch Manager and Bettys Retail Managers to produce and agree the short, medium and long term business plan for the team ensuring alignment with the branch strategy and future pictures.
Accountable for the delivery of the annual budgets for the Department. Analyses and reports on financial and other relevant measures, ensuring margins are achieved. Develops remedial plans as required.
Facilitates a culture of high standards and attention to detail, with clear accountabilities, ownership, teamwork and personal learning.
Collaborates actively with all areas of the branch and business, promoting excellent relationships to mutual benefit, with teams such as the Bakery and
Marketing.
Challenges the status quo and champions a culture of continuous improvement and excellence while maximising profits and reducing costs.
Continuously works to deliver outstanding customer service, ensuring the highest possible operating standards and attention to detail to ensure all our customers receive the Bettys experience.
Manages the performance of the team, monitoring the day-to-day activities of the
Retail Department, including the achievement of objectives and targets.

Knowledge

Experience of working in and managing a busy Retail department.
Knowledge of merchandising and how to use this to influence category targets.
Experience and knowledge of working with quality products.
Experience of delivering outstanding customer service.
Knowledge and practical application of Food Safety and Food
Hygiene.
Proven experience in managing budgets, including controlling wage, food and waste costs.
Proven experience in driving sales and achieving profit and other financial KPIs.
Knowledge and experience in following people management procedures.
Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (inc Word, Excel,
Outlook).
Knowledge and experience of using stock management systems and electronic point of sale systems.
