Permits will NOT be sent by post but can be collected from the Visitor Centre from 09.00 1 st March. SAILING AT LLANDEGFEDD GENERAL INFORMATION Llandegfedd provides one of the most important and challenging sites for inland sailing in this area of the country. Sailing at the reservoir is provided for the public on a day and season basis. It is essential that a permit is obtained before you sail at the reservoir. The sailing permit allows the named permit holder to sail the boat/board specified at the Reservoir subject to the sailing regulations. The same boat/board may be sailed by the permit holder’s family and friends. The use of the boat/board at the reservoir is the responsibility of the permit holder. The Company reserves the right to withdraw any permit in the event of contravention of the regulations. Boat Season permit holders are allocated a berth in the dinghy park where they may store their boats during the sailing season only. Sailboard storage id not permitted on site. It is inevitable that the water levels of the reservoir will fluctuate throughout the sailing season. This is a feature of reservoir sailing that must be accepted. During periods of low water level, boats may be kept temporarily between the slipways near the water’s edge by agreement with the duty Ranger and at the customers own risk. Sailing Season 1st March until 31st October, 9.00am to 9.00pm or sunset whichever is the earlier. Permit holders must check with the duty Ranger the time the water must be cleared of sailing craft. Racing Sailing races usually organised by Llandegfedd Sailing Club are held regularly throughout the season. GENERAL REGULATIONS Rangers The instructions of the Company’s Rangers must be obeyed. Sailing Permission No boat or board may be sailed unless the helmsman is in possession of the correct permit. A permit must be purchased for each boat/board used. Permits are not temporarily transferable between boats/boards. Boats/Sailboard Identification The boat/board name and/or number as declared on the season or day permit must be clearly displayed. The permit label issued with each permit must be affixed to the boat/board in a clearly visible position. Permitted Boats/Sailboards Only single hull sailing dinghies/catamarans and sailboards of less than 6.1m (20ft) in length are permitted at Llandegfedd. No fixed keel boats are permitted. No power boats are permitted except by specific permission of the management. Boat/Sailboard Launching Boats may only be launched and landed via the slipways in the sailing bay. Sailboard launching must take place from the bank area near the Watersports Centre. No sailboards are to be launched or recovered from the slip-ways or from the roadside bank. All boats/boards should be removed from the water when not being sailed. All trailers and trollies must be left clear of the launch areas and shall not be left in the water whilst sailing. Boat/Sailboard Storage Boats/sailboards and associated gear may only be stored within the area of the allotted berth. Trailers must not be stored in the dinghy park area. Any boats, boards or other equipment stored incorrectly will be moved at the owner’s risk. All boats/boards and associated equipment is left on site at the owners risk. (i) Neither Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig nor its agents, employees or servants shall be liable for any loss, injury or damage of whatsoever nature to (the holder of this permit) while on the property of Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig or ant part thereof or while entering or leaving the same save in respect of death or personal injury caused by the negligence of Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig or its agent, employees or servants. (ii) (The holder of this permit) shall indemnify and keep indemnified Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig and its agents, employees and servants from and against all loss and liability whatsoever which Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig may suffer or incur and which arises from the (holder of this permit’s) negligence, breach of contract or otherwise. SAILING SAFETY REGULATIONS Abandoned Craft The Company reserves the right to dispose of unpermitted craft left on site for a period of 18 months or more; proceeds will be used to cover storage and disposal costs where applicable. Animals Dogs may be brought onto reservoir grounds but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please clean up after your dogs and dispose of waste in the bins provided. Dogs must not be allowed to swim in the reservoir. Swimming Swimming and paddling is strictly forbidden. Anyone found violating this regulation may be banned from using the reservoir for the rest of the season. Cars Cars may be parked only in the car parks provided and must be driven with due care and attention. Cars should have parking permits clearly displayed. Conservation Llandegfedd Reservoir is of great conservation importance and is designated a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’. Each visitor is expected to respect this fact. The shooting, trapping or wilful disturbance of birds and animals is specifically prohibited. Country Code Follow the Country Code – Take your litter home. Toilets Only the toilets provided may be used for sanitary purposes. The reservoir is used for public water supply and anyone causing pollution of the water will be prosecuted or barred from future use of the site. Radios Radios are only permitted if used with individual earphones. Removal of Boats/Sailboards All boats/sailboards and associated gear must be removed from the sailing compound on or before 31st October. Any boat/board left on site after that date will be impounded and a storage fee of double the winter permit fee will be charged. Prohibition of Boat/Sailboard Hire or Sale The hiring or sale of boats/boards or any other equipment or the operation of a commercial sailing/windsurfing/canoeing school at Llandegfedd is strictly prohibited other than in cases of specific arrangement agreed with the Company. Insurance Each sailing boat/board must be insured for Third Party Liability to a minimum of £3,000,000. The Company shall not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury sustained by permit holders, the agents or transferees. All equipment left on site is left at the owner’s risk. Breach of Regulation Anybody who breaks the regulations may be prohibited from the reservoir without compensation. Closure of Reservoir Welsh Water reserves the right to close the reservoir to any activity at any time without notice. Red Flag Sailing is prohibited whilst the red flag is being flown from the flag mast. Rescue Boat Sailing is only permitted whilst the rescue boat is afloat and ready for operational use. Life-Jackets Every Sailor MUST wear a life-jacket or buoyancy aid at all times as recommended by the RYA. Seat, nappy or waist harnesses are not accepted as the only means of buoyancy. Buoyancy aids should provide a minimum of 50N, carry a CE marking and be correctly fitted. Wet-Suits Every sailor must wear a dry or wet suit when the water temperature is below 7oC. Every SAILBOARDER must wear both a wet-suit (or dry-suit) and a lifejacket or buoyancy aid in addition to a harness at all times. Children No child under the age of 8 is permitted on the water. Emergencies If you require assistance then summon help immediately in the following manner: raise one arm in the air and wave it slowly from side to side. Sailing Area No sailing is permitted within Sor Bay, Green Pool, Inlet or Doctor’s bay as marked by buoys. All sailing boats must keep at least 50 metres from bank fishing areas and boats engaged in fishing. No sailing is permitted south of the pontoons. Rule of the Road The ‘Rule of the Road’ will apply to all boats/boards at all times. Sailing boats, sailboards and canoes must keep well clear of fishing boats. Maximum Crew Not more than 3 persons are permitted in any sailing boat. Certain boats may be permitted to sail with ‘4 up’ subject to specific permission of the Duty Ranger. Capsize Drill Deliberate capsizes are not to be carried out unless specifically approved by the Duty Ranger. Buoyancy A boat shall not be sailed unless in good order and equipped with adequate buoyancy. Evidence of buoyancy must be produced to a Ranger on request.
