PRE-MANUFACTURING CERTIFICATE
In this 300-hour non-credit certificate program, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of manufacturing.
Coursework includes an overview of various functions in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on job
readiness. The PMC training program prepares students for entry-level positions in manufacturing or to continue
their studies in advanced manufacturing, engineering technology, and associate degree programs. Program tuition
is $4,000. Installment plan is available. This is a WIA approved program. Financial assistance may be available
through the Department of Labor. Choose WIA ID 09411.
Pre-Manufacturing Certificate core courses meet Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, starting January
2015.

REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES
This required course for real estate salesperson licensing provides clear explanation of modern real estate
practices and a working knowledge of real estate in Connecticut. Recognized by the Real Estate Consortium of
Community Colleges of Connecticut and approved by the State of Connecticut Real Estate Commission this course
meets the minimum 60-hour requirement outlined by the State. For a summary of the Connecticut Real Estate
Licensing requirements refer to: www.dcp.state.ct.us/licensing. Property owners, buyers, sellers, and anyone
interested in pursuing real estate careers or operations will find this course beneficial and rewarding. Those
students intending to sit for the State of Connecticut Real Estate Exam must attend 60 class hours (excluding the
final exam class) and pass this course with a grade of 70 or better. Instructor: Richard Mihalcik.

COMBINATION SAFE BOATING AND PERSONAL WATERCRAFT COURSE
This Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) certificate course is taught by boating
professionals sponsored by the CT DEEP.

Before taking your boating course, you must obtain a Connecticut Conservation Identification Number (ID). If you
have a Connecticut Hunting or Fishing License, your Conservation ID will be the same ID number that was assigned
with the hunting or fishing license.
• If you need a Conservation ID number, go to https://www.ctwildlifelicense.com/internetsales/ sales (online
Sportsman Licensing system) and complete the registration process for “New Customers”.
• When you take your class, our instructor/course provider will need the ID number assigned to you. You will need
to provide your instructor with your name (as it was entered into the online Sportsman Licensing System) as well
as your month and day of birth. Within a week of completing your course and passing your exam, you should be
able to purchase your certificate from your home computer by going to the
https://www.ctwildlifelicense.com/internetsales/sales (online Sportsman Licensing system).

MEASUREMENT AND INTRODUCTION TO BLUEPRINT READING
This course starts with the basics of blueprint reading and progresses up to fundamental Geometric Dimensioning
and Tolerancing (GD&T). Print reading includes the definition of a blueprint, title blocks, types of working drawings,
projection of shapes, dimensioning and tolerance. Measurement provides the student with an introduction to the
construction and usage of inspection tools including hands-on exercises to understand the dimensional characteristics of a variety of sample parts. Various measurement tools will be introduced to inspect a part and compare
results to the blueprint.
Required textbook: Blueprint Reading Basics, 3rd Edition, by Hammer ISBN 978-0-8311-3125-8 plus assorted
measuring instruments. Must attend all classes to earn 6.0 CEU certificate.
CRN 1420: Mon/Wed., March – May 2015, 5:00p-8:30pm, $545 plus textbook and materials.
CONNECTICUT SECURITY OFFICER TRAINING
Connecticut General Statutes require that security officers must complete an 8-hour training course to be eligible
for certification. Successful completion of this course allows the individual to apply for a Security Officer
Identification Card from the State of Connecticut. Course topics include overview of basic first aid, search and
seizure, the use of force, basic criminal justice, public safety issues, CT State Statutes concerning security officers,
and State application requirements. Students must pass the course examination with a score of 75% or better.
Bring a State-issued photo ID to class, plus a notebook, pen/pencil, and highlighter. It is suggested that students
also bring a lunch.
The course fee does not include the approximately $170 paid to the State of Connecticut when applying for
Certification. For more information on security officer requirements go to the Connecticut Department of
Emergency Services and Public Protection website at www.ct.gov/despp. Note: CT law states that no person shall
be approved who has been convicted of a felony, any sexual offense, or any crime involving honesty or integrity.
To be employed as a Security Officer you must be at least 18 years of age.

MICROSOFT OFFICE CERTIFICATE
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
The computer plays a significant role as a productivity tool in many fields of study and employment. This course
focuses on integrating comprehensive computing skills as a means to introduce students to the knowledge, skills,
and techniques necessary to achieve proficiency in the Microsoft Office software applications suite (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook). The computer operating systems, file management operations, computer
concepts and vocabulary are included as integral elements to understanding the software applications
environment. Students will examine productivity and computing procedures in workplace and academic settings,
enhance their computer skills, and be able to critically apply these skills in various situations.
The goals of this course are for students to gain knowledge of the features and capabilities of word processing,
spreadsheet, presentation, database applications, and email; to develop their proficiency in these applications
through use of the Microsoft Office software suite; to create a portfolio of projects that demonstrate successful
application of skill with the software applications; to efficiently and accurately produce and process information
using computer software applications. Prerequisite: A working knowledge of Windows, keyboarding skills. Must
attend all classes to earn 4.8 CEU certificate.
CRN 1197: Tues/Thurs, March 24 – May 19, no classes April 2, 1:00pm-4:00pm.

BOOKKEEPING AND QUICKBOOKS CERTIFICATE
This hands-on course will introduce students to entry level bookkeeping principles and procedures. Students will
examine case studies from the text and identify ways to streamline bookkeeping activities. In addition to the text,
practical examples will be examined to better understand bookkeeping and its application in small and large
companies. QuickBooks 2014 will be incorporated to further help students achieve bookkeeping software
knowledge. Prerequisite: basic clerical skills, computer competency, high school level reading and math skills. Must
attend all classes to earn 3.9 CEU certificate.

MICROSOFT EXCEL 2013: INTRODUCTION
This course is designed for people new to spreadsheets and for self-taught users who wish to expand their
knowledge. Students will learn to navigate the main areas of the Excel worksheet and workbook, complete
templates, enter, edit and delete data, create basic formulas and functions, including SUM, AVERAGE, MAX and
MIN, enhance the presentation of workbook data, create, display and manipulate simple charts, and how to save
in a network environment as well as on external media. Prerequisite: Basic Windows, keyboard and mouse skills.
Must attend all classes to earn 0.6 CEU certificate.

MICROSOFT EXCEL 2013: INTERMEDIATE
This course builds upon the fundamentals presented in Excel 2013 Introduction. Concepts include how to navigate
through a worksheet; work with multiple worksheets; freeze titles and add comments; print, personalize an
environment; construct cell data; apply auto fill; apply and manipulate hyperlinks and cell formats; merge or split
cells; create row and column titles; hide and unhide rows and columns; and manipulate page setup options for
worksheets; create and apply cell styles; manipulate window and workbook views; create and revise formulas;
apply cell references, named ranges, cell ranges and condition logic in formulas; apply Sparklines; and apply
conditional formatting. Prerequisite: Excel 2013 Introduction or comparable competency. Must attend all classes
to earn 0.6 CEU certificate.

MICROSOFT EXCEL 2013: DATA AND FUNCTIONS
This comprehensive course on data handling will include protocols for building a data table in Excel, data sorting
and filtering, Solver, Goal Seek, Pivot Tables and Charts, everyday shortcuts, 3D formulas, Managing information in
tables and using pivot table reports, conditional formatting, and data validation. Prerequisite: intermediate Excel
competency. Must attend all classes to earn 0.6 CEU certificate.

MICROSOFT EXCEL 2013: ADVANCED TOPICS
This advanced course will include more complex formulas (IF statements, nested IF statements, Financial functions,
Date/Time functions, Lookup Functions; Relative Reference vs Absolute Reference); merging workbooks, macros:
running a macro when a workbook is opened; running a macro when a button is clicked; recording an action
macro; assigning a macro to a command button; creating a custom macro button on the Quick Access Toolbar; and
applying modifications to a macro. Prerequisite: intermediate Excel competency. Must attend all classes to earn
0.6 CEU certificate.
