A VOCABULARY WORD WITHOUT CONTEXT CLUES: Example: The barn was dilapidated. If you did not know what dilapidated means, HOW WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT THE BARN LOOKED LIKE??? That’s WHY we need CONTEXT CLUES – hints/clues within the sentence and/or in sentences nearby, that help the reader understand the meaning of a word they may not be familiar with.
