There were 50 participants on the 4th Annual Mystery Ride. The weather was terrific and everyone
enjoyed the event. Lee Murphy led the 20 mile, Mystery Ride starting at 8:32am. They rode in the
northwest area of Colorado Springs. A que sheet was provided.
Goat-heads – Stan Hill
Day after “Solstice” Stan saw his first goat-head. With all of the rain/moisture we now have an
abundance of goat-heads for this fall. Stan worked on eliminating goat-heads on the Rock Island Trail
several years ago. One CSCC Tuesday ride, participants hauled out 3 huge trash bags of goat-heads.
There was a minimum of goat-heads for the next 6 years. Then, Stan collected one trash bag in the 7th
year and a half trash bag the following year.

Incidents – Jean Zeh
Be careful when riding in traffic and make eye contact with drivers, when the situation becomes
complex.

We had an incident on the Mystery Ride – a woman was hit by a vehicle and an ambulance
arrived to take her to the ER.

Sharon Richards was on the Sunday Social Ride. She was separated from the group. Traffic was
complex and a man did not look at Sharon on her bicycle. He pulled out to beat another vehicle
through the intersection and almost hit Sharon!

Another Safe Cycling 123+ course will be conducted this fall. Fee $10 Learn bicycle handling
skills, rules of the road, etc. 10am to 3pm. Course includes discussion, work in a parking lot,
watching a video and riding to lunch. Discuss the riding experience. Then, ride back to class to
discuss additional info.

By-Law of CSCC – one objective is to ride safely.
The Ride for the Cure on 26 SEP needs a SAG driver.
BVBF – Charlie Czar
The Buena Vista Rotary is taking over the 2016 BVBF. The club will provide mentoring and volunteering.
We have almost reached an accord with the Rotary POCs. CSCC suggested BVBF pays CSCC $2 per rider
for the first year and $1 for an additional 3 years.
CSCC will seek additional ways to earn money for the club.

Spain Travelogue – Dennis & Terry Stuck
Espana - Andalucia (southern Spain; southern border on the Mediterranean Sea)
April 2015 - Saville/Sevilla
Tandem: Carmona, Palma Del Rio, Cordoba, Baena, Almedinilla, Granada
Valencia
Just came off the Great Divide and flew into Madrid.
Slide - Map of Spain
Surprisingly, bull fighting is only popular in central and southern Spain
There are 50 Provinces with planes and trains using Madrid as a central hub.
Surprise! On Monday’s the museums are closed.
Dennis and Terry took 4 bags:
1. Bike Frame, 49 pounds
2. Bike Wheels & Accessories 49 pounds
3. Bike clothing, seats, panniers, helmets, handlebar bag, 46 pounds
4. All other stuff (conference wear) 46 pounds. Returned weighing 49 pounds to carry Rioja Wine
& Saffron (costing $250 ounce)
Our reserved Bike Tour (Andalusian Affair) can cancelled as individuals cancelled their place on the tour.
As a result, we hired the tour for two as self-guided and luggage supported. They reserved us great
hotels.
Tip: Dennis uses a one-page tour itinerary with hotel info each night and phone number. He puts a copy
in each bag for back-up.
Seville/Savilla
First thing Dennis did was to book a Flamenco Show & Dinner. They visited a Bullfight Ring, the Alcazar
(Palace/Fort).
As a result of the trip, Dennis & Terry have switched from wine to beer. Beer comes in larger glasses and
the cost is much cheaper than wine!
Carmona
Building the bicycle takes 3 hours including loading the panniers. There is a great picture of Dennis &
Terry – check website http://struck.us/BikePics/BikeStories50.html.
In Palma Del Rio we stayed in a Monastery.
In Cordoba we visited the Great Mosque of Cordoba.
In Baena there were oranges and orange trees everywhere!
Almedinilla
In Granada there were olive trees and the Alhambra with beautiful architecture, fountains and gardens.
Valencia fabulous!
Thank you Dennis and Terry for share your bicycle adventures and pictures in Spain.

New Popcycle Bridge – Allen Beauchamp
The Popcycle Bridge was an effort with Kids on Bikes. On August 30th, they celebrated the anniversary of
the Popcycle Bridge. KOB has a Family Ride from America the Beautiful Park to the top end of Memorial
Park on Sundays from May to October.
As part of the Legacy Loop, Kids on Bikes adopted the bridge. BTW, KOB is 10 years old.
KOB requested a $350,000 grant for the bridge; however, they were turned down. KOB provided
$70,000 worth of bridge improvements. The Popcycle Bridge is listed on Colorado Springs Historical
Registry.
This fall they will be building steps under the bridge and make a clubhouse.
The bridge is located near Beacon; Wood Street on Van Buren. The bridge is paved to the street.
Upcoming is a Roadway Garden. Improvements will continue…
