Individual Work:
Step 1: Tempest Summary (10 mins)

summary of the play, The Tempest.
Step 2: Character Analysis (5 mins)
Select 1 character from the play and write an in-depth analysis on who they are and why
they are important. What is their purpose in the play and what do they represent?

SEND TO MISS JOSSELYN!!
Step 6: Elements of Short Stories (5-10 min)
Once you are finished, download Elements of Short Stories from the SSD and give it a readthrough.
Step 7: Short Story Questions (5 min)
With the elements of a short story in mind, write an email to Miss Josselyn with 3 review
questions that you could pose to someone in the class, based on one of the short stories
we’ve read. We will use these in our next class.
Step 8: Debate
Check out the debate topics on the next page. Pick a topic for debate and make sure you
have a debate partner to counter your argument. Write your topic and names on the board.
There shouldn’t be any overlap because we need to cover as many topics as possible.
Step 9: 2-Minute Plays
Note: We will most likely only get to start on this. We will pick up on these where we left off
next week.
You will have roughly 10 minutes total to organize a 2-minute summary performance of
The Tempest. In groups of 5 or 6, create a super-short play that summarizes the plot of The
Tempest. It should really only include the most essential bits of the story, and no direct
dialogue from the play. Use your own words for dialogue. You will need to double up on
characters.
