Word Study – Lesson 18
Day 1
Meet the Words
On a separate sheet of paper, write each of the words and sort them by high-frequency words
and emotion/quality words.
Day 2
Clustering
On a separate sheet of paper, group the words that identify qualities of caring according
to the following questions:
1. Which qualities are most likely to be directed toward people?
2. Which are most likely to be directed toward animals?
3. Which words could you use with both groups?
4. Which if these qualities might involve monetary donations?
5. Which qualities involve other types of contributions?
6. Which qualities are similar in meaning?
7. What other words can you list that are used to describe other caring qualities?
Day 3
Word Builder
Use the letters at the bottom of this week’s word list to spell out new words on a
separate sheet of paper. Words must be at least 3 letters and no proper nouns are
allowed. See if you can find the 10-letter word that fits the clue: We should all strive to
display this quality.
Day 4
Word Action
You will be assigned a group and one of this week’s words. You will plan a short skit or
write a short skit to demonstrate the word. Do not use the word in your skit. If you
choose not to perform the skit in front of the class, you must have the written skit in your
word study packet.
