Function of the Reproductive System
(Insert Dari)
To reproduce
•
•
•
•
Insert Dari
produce egg and sperm cells
transport and sustain these cells
nurture the developing offspring
produce hormones
AFAMS
Definitions
(Insert Dari)
Gonad – Organ that produces
gametes (i.e. ovaries and testes).
Insert Dari
Gamete – Is a cell that fuses with
another cell during fertilization
(i.e. egg and sperm).
AFAMS
The Reproductive System
(Insert Dari)
Includes:
Reproductive organs
called gonads that
produce gametes
(reproductive cells) and
hormones
Ducts that transport
gametes
Accessory glands and
organs that secrete
fluids
Insert Dari
AFAMS
Male Reproductive System
‫سیستم تناسلی مذکر‬
Functions
Insert Dari
• To produce, maintain and transport
sperm (the male reproductive cells) and
protective fluid.
•To produce and secrete male sex
hormones responsible for maintaining
the male reproductive system
AFAMS
Male Reproductive System
Testes – where sperm is produced
Prostate – where fluid is produced. The urethra
runs from the bladder and through the prostate.
Seminal duct – passageway for the sperm from
the testicle to the urethra where the sperm is
mixed with fluid from the prostate.

Female Reproductive System
(Insert Dari)
Functions
•Produces the female egg cells
•Transports the eggs to the site of
fertilization
•The fertilization of an egg by a
sperm, occurs in the fallopian tubes
•After fertilization, provides a
place for a baby to develop
•If fertilization does not take
place, the system is designed to
menstruate
•Produces female sex hormones
that maintain the reproductive
cycle

AFAMS
Female Reproductive System
Ovaries – where eggs and sex
hormones are produced.
Fallopian tubes – allow the egg to
travel to the uterus. Most often
fertilization occurs here.
Uterus – where the growing fetus
develops.
Vagina – birth canal

Menstrual Cycle
(Insert Dari)
In preparation for pregnancy
the uterus will begin to grow a
lining along the inside of the
uterus.
Insert Dari
If a woman does not become
pregnant the uterus will shed
this lining approximately every
28 days.
This process is called the
menstrual cycle and is
controlled by hormones
produced by the ovaries.

Disorders of the Reproductive Systems

Male Reproductive system
Enlarged prostate
Insert Dari
Female Reproductive System
Yeast Infection
Sexually Transmitted Infections
AFAMS
Enlarged Prostate
(Insert Dari)
An enlarged prostate means the
gland has grown bigger.
Insert Dari
This can often cause problems
with urination, including
inability to urinate.
AFAMS
Is a fungal infection of the
vagina and is very common.
Yeast Infection
(Insert Dari)
Insert Dari
Our skin naturally has many
microscopic bacteria, fungi etc
present.
A yeast infection occurs when
there is a disruption in the
balance of skin lining the
vaginal wall, which allows for
an over growth of yeast.
This can be caused by many
things to include:
- stress
- intercourse
- menstruation
AFAMS
Sexually Transmitted Infections
(Insert Dari)
Infections which are passed
through unprotected sexual
contact.
Insert Dari
These infections can be due to
bacteria or viruses and some
can be very difficult to treat.
