STUDY PLAN AGREEMENT (SPA) - NOTES FOR COMPLETION
These notes are designed to explain what information should be entered in each section of the SPA.
Section A: Student Information
This section requires basic personal information such as student name, UEL student number and the student’s
status, such as whether full- or part-time, and whether the student started their studies in Semester A or B. ‘First
year of enrolment’ refers to the first year when the student began their current degree studies. In the ‘expected
completion year’ box you should enter the academic year when the student is now expected to complete their
studies including taking any transitional/trailing credit. This is a check to ensure the student can complete within the
University’s time limits for completion of studies.
Full-time students must complete within 4 years and part-time students within 8 years since their first enrolment.
Intermissions extend the time limit by the length of the period of intermission.
The most recent progression decision for a student can be found by looking at the individual student profile on UEL
Direct.
Section B: Programme Details
Please enter here the student’s programme of study.
Section C: Current module credit achieved (as at the end of 2014/15)
Please enter here the module credit the student has achieved at each level by the end of the academic year
2014/15. This should include credit achieved at the summer 2015 resits so that there is a clear picture of the
student’s position at the start of the new academic year in 2015/16.
Section D: Remaining credit to be completed
Please enter here the amount of credit required and at which level of study.
Section E: Study plan
In this section please enter the proposed plan by which it is intended the student should complete their credit. This
could for example be by taking standard modules with attendance, by assessment only, DL modules, or transitional
modules.
Please note that the maximum amount of credit which can be taken in one academic year (including Sem C) is 150
for a full-time student and 90 for a part-time student. There are no exceptions possible to this.
Transitional Credit - Depending on the amount of transitional credit required, the plan can contain a mix of
transitional module types. Where an Individually Negotiated Learning Agreement (INL) has been used, please attach
the INL form to the SPA to ensure a complete record of what has been agreed.
For each amount of transitional credit, please indicate the module code, module title, level, amount of credit to be
achieved and the academic year in which the credit is to be taken. Please also indicate whether this is an INL module
and also whether this is a resit/repeat/2nd attempt module which therefore needs to be capped.
Standard Credit - For each amount of credit, please indicate the module code, module title, level, amount of credit
to be achieved and the academic year in which the credit is to be taken. In the case where students are retaking
credit please specify if this is to be taken with full attendance or by assessment only.
For students retaking by assessment only, in some cases an INL may be completed in order to devise bespoke
learning arrangements. Where an INL has been used, please attach the INL form to the SPA to ensure a complete
record of what has been agreed.
STUDY PLAN AGREEMENT (SPA) - NOTES FOR COMPLETION
Section F: Agreement
This section needs to be signed by both the student and the member of staff with whom they have discussed their
study plan. In signing this, the student is agreeing that they understand their study plan, and that if they don’t
complete this as planned, they may not be able to complete their degrees and might have to leave the University.
Retention of records
A signed copy of this form should be given to the student and a signed copy retained within the University with the
student’s other records. Please also upload a copy of this form to Delta. Should the plan change after initial
agreement then a revised SPA should be completed with a cover note explaining the revision.
