CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTOR
Adjunct (2 classes each quarter for 3 quarters), non-tenure track position

Salary is based on the adjunct salary rate of $599.62 per lecture credit and $975.46 per lab
credit. Introduction to Chemistry classes are 5 credits, with 4 hours weekly lecture and 1 hour
weekly lab. Quarterly salary for each class taught is $3,373.94.
Big Bend Community College provides a robust benefits package. The benefits, programs,

School year begins September 19, 2016 and ends June 14, 2017.

THE POSITION:
Big Bend Community College is a rural community college located in the sunny, central part of
Washington State and accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend
Community College is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and serves approximately 5,000
students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,100, in a 4,600-square-mile service district
including 15 communities in Grant and Adams Counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln
County with on-site and online instruction.
The Chemistry/Science department has two full-time instructors within the larger Math/Science Division
and we are working toward program expansion. We are looking for someone prepared and interested in
teaching introductory chemistry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
 Prepare and teach classes in Chemistry (may include day, evening and online classes).
 Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.
 Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following:
 A Master’s degree in Chemistry from an accredited institution, or to be completed by September
2016. An advanced degree in a closely related field with significant coursework in chemistry may
substitute.
 Strong computer skills, especially in accessing and utilizing computerized resources.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 Successful post-secondary teaching (teaching assistantship included) experience with students of
varied ethnicity, ages, backgrounds and abilities.
 Experience implementing strategies to improve student success and retention.
 Experience utilizing teaching technology
 Demonstrated application of innovative teaching methods with a post-secondary student population.
 Demonstrated multicultural experience (fluency in other languages, work experience, or
literary/cultural/travel experience) which add breadth and depth to teaching.
