There is sea and sand. There is a golf course. There are National
Parks.
Level 2 (Clear) 3-4 marks
Must be explanation. Linked statements with reference to the map
extract.
There are beaches along the west coast and places of interest to visit
in Phuket and Ko Phuket. Golf can be played at Kathu. It has good
communications and there is an airport nearby so people can fly there
from MEDCs. It can also be reached by road and by sea from Krabi.
There is a link to the islands of Mu KO Similan where there are scenic
views. The Sirinath National Park is near by and so can be visited.

Simple statements
The people from the richer countries can go on holiday to the poorer countries. People
from the richer countries own the hotels.
Level 2 (Clear) 3-4 marks
Must be explanation. Linked statements with some development.
The people from the richer countries(MEDCs) own the hotels so much of the profit
goes back to the richer countries rather than staying in the poorer countries (LEDCs).. If
people from the LEDCs own the hotels, the tour operators from the MEDCs may exploit
them because they have to lower their prices in order to get the bookings. MEDCs benefit
from interest on loans given to LEDCs to develop tourism. LEDCs have to purchase
equipment from MEDCs. The airlines flying to tourist areas in LEDCs are often owned
by MEDCs or companies based in MEDCs.
