XAVIER COLLEGE PREPARATORY NAMES LAMAR-RENEE BRYANT
AS NEW VARSITY VOLLEYBALL COACH
(PHOENIX) - Xavier College Preparatory is pleased to announce Lamar-Renee Bryant as its new Varsity
Volleyball Head Coach. For over a decade, Ms. Bryant has built winning volleyball teams from the young
women whom she has trained and developed. She is focused and confident, and her spirit of fierce competition,
consistency, effective communication, and unyielding commitment have led to great achievements as both a
player and a coach.
Ms. Bryant began turning heads at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe, Arizona, where she was a three-year
varsity volleyball player, two-time MVP and Captain, All-Region MVP, United Dairymen's All-American, two-time
All-Arizona State Team member, Aztec Player of the Year, and also a starter for the 1993 State Champion
Basketball Team.
Ms. Bryant went on to earn a scholarship to the University of Memphis and then transferred to Morgan State
University in Baltimore, Maryland, after completing her freshman year. Morgan State won back-to-back
conference championships in 1997 and 1998, and appeared in the NCAA tournament for the first two times in
the school's history. She was a two-time All-Academic Conference Selection, and earned the prestigious Arthur
Ashe, Jr. Scholars Award in 1999 in recognition of her academic excellence, community activism, and athletic
prowess. She graduated cum laude from Morgan State University, and subsequently earned a Master of
Science degree in Sports Marketing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Since arriving on Xavier College Preparatory's campus eight years ago, Ms. Bryant has guided its junior
varsity volleyball team to an impressive 121-7 record as Head Coach. Currently, she is coaching the Arizona
Storm 18-Thunder Junior National Open club team, which is comprised of elite athletes vying for collegiate
scholarships. In 2011 and 2012, she coached Spiral Volleyball's 18 Open club team when they were back-toback Arizona Region runners-up. Her Spiral team qualified for Nationals in 2011 and finished 19th in the
nation, with the entire roster receiving collegiate volleyball scholarships.
Ms. Bryant not only dedicates herself to building competitive volleyball programs as a bright, innovative coach,
but she also oversees a scholarship program at Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), a local non-profit that has
awarded over 1,100 scholarships worth more than $3.6 million to disadvantaged students throughout
Arizona.
Ms. Bryant is eager to achieve new heights for the nationally known Xavier volleyball program as its Varsity
Head Coach. In the past six years, Xavier's team has won the 5-A Division 1 State Championship four times
and has been the State Runner-Up once.
Xavier College Preparatory, located at 4710 North Fifth Street in north central Phoenix, has built an
outstanding record of academic excellence, innovation, leadership development, athletics and
community service. Xavier is twice recognized as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School
of Excellence, and recognized nationally for academic excellence by the Catholic High School Honor
Roll. Xavier was awarded the 2007-08 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement, honoring high schools
with high student success rates in AP math, science and technology courses. The Arizona
Interscholastic Association twice awarded Xavier its prestigious H.A. Hendrickson Award (2009, 2012)
for overall excellence in interscholastic competition, and its Blue Cup Award (2006) for excellence in
scholastics, athletics and activities.
All Xavier graduates attend post-secondary institutions. Members of the Class of 2012 were accepted
at 299 colleges and universities, garnering over $26 million in college scholarships. Nearly forty percent
of Xavier students have financial need, and Xavier is strongly committed to educating all qualified
students.
Xavier College Preparatory is a Catholic community that strives to prepare young women
with the knowledge, skills, and integrity to meet the challenges of a changing global society in a
positive and productive manner.
