You will create a setting using descriptive
language. Your setting should be rich in
imagery and provide an insight into your
sensibility or personality. Remember setting
can have multiple functions in a text. It
establishes background, tone, characterization,
and quite often conflict-to name a few. At this
point you do not need to create a character.




establishing background, tone and in some
instances, a foreshadowed conflict. You will
now extend your setting by creating a character
to take center stage in this environment. When
creating your character be sure to consider the
2 methods of characterization: Direct and
Indirect. You must also decide the point of
view from which you will tell the story.





