Dual Credit Program Overview
• In Dual Credit Classes, college credit is earned
upon completion of the class with a grade of “C”
or higher (no additional test)
• Dual Credit courses generally transfer to most
Texas Public Universities
• It is the student’s responsibility to confirm with
the school they want to attend about transfer
credits
• Saves money
o
Students can earn up to 2 courses of college credit
each semester at no cost
o
Reduces the costs of tuition and textbooks resulting in
thousands of dollars in savings
• Gets some prerequisites out of the way
• Dual Credit is college. Students will be exposed
to college level material at CHS
• Students in the program are considered college
students; are protected by FERPA laws
• Dual Credit grades do become part of the
student’s high school permanent academic
record
• In an AP (Advance Placement) Class, college
credit is not earned until a student takes and
achieves a certain score on an AP test.
• Dual credit is a course for college credit. The AP
Exam may earn college credit.
• Students might earn both Dual Credit and AP
credit in certain courses.
• The Dual Credit program is designed for high school
juniors and seniors seeking to get a jump on their
college coursework.
• Students who have test scores (or PSAT for current
sophomores) that indicate they are ready to enter the
program and who feel comfortable doing college level
work should consider dual credit.
• Students are allowed to take a maximum of TWO Dual
Credit courses per semester.

• Dual Credit Students must maintain an overall
GPA of a 2.0 in the dual credit course and remain
in good standing at their high school.
• Dual Credit Students who earn below a 2.0 GPA
in a single semester (fall or spring) will not be
allowed to continue in the dual credit program.
• You can APPLY ONLINE TODAY!
• First Time Students’ Application Packet:
 Follow application instructions located on the dual credit link on
the CHS Counseling webpage or the printout in the counseling
office

Turn in Student/Parent Consent Form (also found on the dual credit
link) to the counseling office.

Test scores SAT or ACT (send scores directly to NVC)
 Eligibility
is determined exclusively by Northwest Vista College
based on a completed application packet and test scores

High School Transcript will be sent by CHS

FINAL STEPS
Returning Dual Credit Students:
• DO NOT have to RE-APPLY
February 7, 2014
• Apply Texas Application must be completed and submitted
April 22, 2014
• Student/Parent Consent Form due in Counseling Office
• Deadline to submit SAT/ACT test scores from College Board
Last opportunities to test before April 22nd deadline:
• SAT – March 8 (registration deadline Feb. 7)
• ACT – February 8 (registration deadline Jan. 10)
June 12, 2014
• Students needing to retest for a qualifying score may take an exam
at NVC in an attempt to qualify for dual credit participation
