March 8, 1917, Russian citizens
protested in Petrograd, the
Russian capital, to protest the
lack of food and fuel
Police and the military refused to
follow orders to shoot the rioters
Czar Nicholas II ordered the
Duma to disband but they defied
this order
March 15, Nicholas was forced
to abdicate
The Duma established a
temporary government led by
Aleksandr Kerensky.
Russians were still unhappy
because the gov’t supported
WWI
Bolsheviks ran against the new
government and wanted a
Marxist country in which they
planned to abolish private
property and enforce social
equality
Bolsheviks was led by Vladimir
Lenin, was kicked out of Russia

Got peace from Germany but
had to give up huge chunks of
land
Some Russians didn’t like that
and separated from the
Bolsheviks and became White
Guard
White Guard got some military
from the United States and
France
Civil war went on between the
two groups for three years
Millions died and the
Bolsheviks remained on top in
1920
Russia was even more of a
wreck than it was before and
gained some capitalist motives
to gain food production
After it got back on its feet in
1922 it became Soviet Union
Then Lenin died in 1924 and
nobody knew who was going
to take the seat

Who authorized for Lenin to get kicked out?
Resputin?
Where did the Red Guards originally get their
guns?
So this is a form of a counter Revolution?
I find it interesting that the United States and
France supported this small group so early on.
I am also surprised that they made such a stand and
fought for three years. That takes some
determination.
If they moved to capitalist ideas didn’t they figure
out that this system wouldn’t work but capitalism
does?
I predict that there is going to bloodshed for the
chair and it is going to end up with some crazy
dude.

but returned in April 1917
Russia lost a huge battle in WWI
and it created widespread
rebellion
In November 1917, armed
Bolshevik factory workers
known as the Red Guard attacked
the temporary government
They won very easily and Lenin
became the new leader of Russia
He got right to work and soon
made private ownership of land
illegal
People who never had power
before gained some
