Session 1: Introduce the students to NEO (NASA Earth Observations)
• Open the site: http://neo.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/Search.html
• Demonstrate the various aspects of NEO
• How to choose a satellite image, data set, time period, how to save, view in Google
Earth
• Show examples of change, demonstrate how to develop explanations
• Requirements of the project: Choose at least 3 images (preferably 5) over a period of
time. Ie: same month over 5 years, or several months in 1 year
• Allow students to work through NEO and begin to choose and save their images
Session 2: Introduce the students to NIH ImageJ
• Download the site: http://rsbweb.nih.gov/ij/download.html
• Demonstrate the various aspects of ImageJ
• Demonstrate how to open save files (from NEO)
• Demonstrate how to stack the images and then animate
• Show examples of change, demonstrate how to develop explanations
• Requirements of the project: Animate image and then choose at least 5 major areas
of the world and explain the change depending on the data set of the image. Afterwards
create a montage to print the images for the research paper and power point.
• Demonstrate how to create a montage of the images.
• Allow students to work through ImageJ and begin to animate and make a montage of
their images.

Dream Vacation
In the first session of this project, students will choose their vacation location. They will
also be given an overview of the Word templates created for their use.
In the second session of this project, students will be introduced to Diigo, a social
bookmarking tool and create three bookmarks about their location.
In the third session, students will be introduced to Excel and how to create sheets to
keep track of expenses.
In the fourth session, students will be introduced to the blog accounts they will use
during the project.
In the fifth session, students will be introduced to Google Maps. They will learn to insert
placemarks, HTML, and routes in the program.
In the sixth session, students will be introduced to Glogster, the last part of their
project.
Students will follow the following steps to create their Dream Vacation Project after
they have been introduced to all of the components.

Pick three places you would like to research as part of this project.
You cannot do the same location as someone in your class.
Sign up on the clipboard.
Ms. Kraft will assign you one of your three choices by the end of the day.

Harlem Renaissance Research Project
1. Students will work in groups of no more than three (3).
2. A well-developed topic outline must be submitted on the day of the presentation.
Final outline will be typed, 12 point font.
3. Your PowerPoint presentations should show care and preparation. You should
include photographs, maps, audio, etc. This is your chance to be creative and/or
artistic!
4. Members of the group must share the workload as equally as possible.
5. A bibliography in MLA format must be created listing all sources.
6. Oral presentations must not exceed five (5) minutes nor fail to be at least three
(3) minutes.

Word Processing 2:
Parent Functions in the School
Students will go around the school and take pictures of an item that has a shape of one of the
parent functions that we have learned about this year. After an item is found and a picture is
taken, the students will place the picture into a word document, draw in x and y axes, and find
the equation that matches the picture.
Comments
This activity is designed for a Math 1 or Math 2 Class that has been taught the parent functions and transformations of
those parent functions. The students will need to be able to identify parent functions as well as write equations of
transformed parent functions.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Parabolas are found everywhere. Art-designs and structure of arches. Science-dealing with movement of an object.
Follow-Up
If time allows, you can have the students find an example of EVERY parent function to make this a more thorough
activity.

In this activity, you and/or a small group will invest $10,000 in four different companies
and then track the stock market price of those companies over a period of time
Researching the Market
Software: Internet, Google Finance
What to do : Choose a few companies in which you think you would like to invest. Using
Microsoft's Internet Explorer and a search engine access each company's Web site in
order to gather as much background information as possible about each company,
including:
Type of company
Number of years in business
Summary of what the company does
2013 profits
2014 profits (thus far)
Now, review the information gathered and decide on four companies in which to invest.
Find out the current selling price per share for each company's stock. Decide how many
shares of stock you want to buy in each company keeping in mind that you have only
$10,000 to invest.
Summary :
This lesson will teach you how to invest in corporate stocks by creating investment
"portfolios." Step-by-step instructions will enable you to develop worksheets that track
their portfolio's performance over a specified time period and report the results to the
class.
Objectives:
To introduce you to the Stock Market, design a worksheet that calculates profit (or loss)
for any given investment, generate line graphs representing stock performance and
create a PowerPoint presentation giving background information on the companies you
chose.
Prerequisite Skills:
Know Microsoft Excel basics and its many features including creating worksheets,
writing formulas and charting, how to create multimedia slide presentation using

An Interview with South Carolina Revolutionary
Heroes
Students will be assigned (or they may pick from a list) the name of one U.S.
revolutionary war hero or a British general. They will then research the individual's
biographical information and the battles that they participated in. The information they
discover will be provided to the other students either in a verbal presentation
(PowerPoint) or in a class discussion. The narrator will take his questions from the
students' reports, and with the assistance of the facilitator (teacher), he/she will prepare
a list of interview questions to use in the video tape production. In addition, students can
prepare charts or instructional materials to add to a Movie Maker 3 production. Students
will be responsible for video recording, editing video, selecting appropriate clips to add to
the Movie Maker slides, record narrations for the introduction and closing using Audacity
software, add slide presentations, graphs and charts, etc.
Students will be responsible for selecting materials that fall within the fair use copyright
rules.
Students will burn a DVD of the final project for their personal collection to add to their
student technology portfolio.
