In the month of
November we
celebrate All
Saints Day and
All Souls Day.
With these
celebrations the
Church reminds
us of the
importance of our
prayers to the
Saints in Heaven,
as well as,
praying for the
suffering souls in purgatory. We, the living, together
with the Holy Souls in purgatory and the Saints in
heaven make up the Communion of Saints. Together
we make up a single "mystical body", with Christ as
the head, in which each member contributes to the
good of all and shares in the welfare of all.
The communion of saints is the spiritual union of the
members of the Catholic Church, living and the dead
which includes, The Church Militant, those of us still
living on earth who are working to become saints in
heaven, The Church Suffering, the Holy Souls in
purgatory who are in the state of purification, and
The Church Triumphant, the saints in heaven.
Our belief in the communion of saints is affirmed in
the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed. During
this month of Holy Souls, let us renew our devotions
to the Saints in Heaven and pray diligently for the
Holy Souls in purgatory.

• Blood Drive
The Rhode Island Blood Center will be having a blood
drive here at Saint Vincent de Paul Church next
Sunday, November 2, 9am-12pm. On that day we will
suspend our Coffee An’ as the blood drive will take
place down stairs in the parish hall.
• Our Lady of Czenstochowa
One of the greatest gifts we can give to our
children is to teach them the Catholic Faith.
“Let everything take second place to our care of our
children, our bringing them up to the discipline and
instruction of the Lord. If from the beginning we teach
them to love true wisdom, they will have great wealth
and glory than riches can provide. If a child learns a
trade, or is highly educated for a lucrative profession, all
this is nothing compared to the art of detachment from
riches; if you want to make your child rich, teach him
this. He is truly rich who does not desire great
possessions, or surround himself with wealth, but who
requires nothing…Don’t think that only monks need to
learn the Bible; Children about to go out into the world
stand in greater need of Scriptural knowledge.”
-St. John Chrysostom
Father Paul Desmarais will be here in our Parish
October 26th at 9am in the church to speak about the
“spirit world”. Father Paul is pastor of St. Mary’s Parish
and St. James chapel. Everyone is invited to listen to
Father Paul in the church with the Religious Education
students.
The “Turkey” is back: The St. Vincent de Paul Society
will be collecting food to make up 25 Thanksgiving
Baskets again this year. Please take a feather from our
“Turkey” and return the item by November 16th. Thank
you for your generosity.
• Saint Vincent de Paul Society
Next week is “soup can” Sunday!
• All Souls Day
All souls Day envelopes are now in the back of the
church. Please write names of your dearly departed on
the back side and return with the collection. The
envelopes will be kept on the altar for November, the
Month of All Souls, so that we can offer their names
during our Holy Masses. During this month we
remember the dead especially on All Souls Day. Since
November 1st falls on Saturday this year it is not a Holy
Day of Obligation.
Our Lady of Czenstochowa Parish will hold its annual
Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, November 2nd, from 9-3pm
at the school auditorium, 222 MacArthur Blvd.
Coventry. Breakfast will be served from 9-11am. Polish
and American food will be served from 11:30am for as
long as it lasts. Frozen Polish food will also be available
from 9am until it is gone. There will also be raffles,
crafts, games, sweets and more.
• SPRED
SPRED is currently on a mission to seek new catechists
to become involved with serving the spiritual needs of
persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities,
ages six through adulthood.
We have a SPRED center at this parish which we are
hoping to be able to re-open again this year but
without more special friends and catechists this will not
be able to happen. So I am asking if anyone of you
know of someone who can benefit from SPRED or if
you have a calling in your heart to share one night a
week to be a catechist, please call Shirley Woodward at
(401)392-8470 or Dorothy Langford at (401)323-4091.
