Monday: Human development (trimesters of pregnancy, pregnancy terms)
Tuesday: Parts of the brain, news story video
Wednesday: Blood flow in the cardiovascular system
Thursday: Nature of science, human development summative packet
Friday: Human immune system, human development summative packet
MONDAY 9/8
Objective
 Housekeeping (science binders, grades were entered Friday)
 Describe the process of human development from fertilization to birth
and major changes that occur in each trimester of pregnancy
(Standard: SC.912.L.16.13, Textbook 34.3)
Materials
 Fetus in utero and trimesters handouts
 Match game cards
Plan of the Day
 Bell Ringer (Describe the primary physical difference between the
morula stage and the blastocyst stage in human development).
 Update science binders. Talk about grades. Discuss the week ahead.
 [Periods 5 and 7 will need to do last week’s foldable.]
 Have students use textbook page 799 to complete fetus in utero
definitions handout. Then discuss handout as whole class.
 Show amniotic sac article/picture

 Students work in pairs to complete brain worksheet while using
textbooks.

 Bell Ringer (which lobe of the brain is responsible for judgment).
 Explain new homework assignment.
 Engage class in discussion about the nature and function of blood.
 Class lecture about how specific factors affect blood flow. Students are
to use a T-chart or similar note taking method.
Assessment
 Teacher will conduct informal formative assessment during a whole
class quiz game before district formal summative.
 District will perform formal summative assessment 9/19.
Homework
 Essay about “Girl with Half a Brain” video. Due Tuesday.

 Construction paper and other materials to make “advertisement” project

 Bell Ringer (None).
 Students work individually to look up associated terms and then use
them to make a human immune system “advertisement.”
 Continue work on human development packet. Allow about 15 minutes.

 Teacher will conduct informal formative assessment during a whole
class quiz game before district formal summative.
 District will perform formal summative assessment 9/19.
 Human development packet will be turned in at a later date for a
