Learning Standard: Explain, in a model, the levels of organization ecologists use to
study ecosystems.
Directions: Create a model to show what you know about LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION in
ecosystems.
Your model must include:
 Scientific Language, including at minimum the following terms - organism,
population, community, ecosystem, biome, biosphere
 Pictures
 A movable part
 A paragraph evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of your model
Summative assessment
This assignment is a summative assessment of the above standard. I will use the 1-7
rubric to score it. Work that approaches mastery will go beyond the above requirements.
As a formative assessment, I will check in with you daily about your progress during work
time. I expect to see progress in the form of annotated text handouts, notes & left side
pages and sketches of your model. You will present your model to me during a 2-minute
conference this Thursday, March 21st.

ecosystems.
Your model must include:
 Scientific Language, including at minimum the following terms – producer, consumer,
decomposer, herbivore, carnivore, photosynthesis
 Pictures
 A movable part
 A paragraph evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of your model
Summative assessment
