Cardiopulmonary Rehab Specialist
Cardiopulmonary Rehab Specialists help patients understand and manage their
health problems so they can live a longer life and accomplish more. They are working
with patients for the first time immediately after their health problem has been
identified. The main tasks include working on making sure the patient understands the
condition they have been diagnosed with and identify any risk factors that they need to
watch out for. Basically, a specialists need to educate and support the patient in
making key changes in their day to day lives in order to recover and return to a healthy
lifestyle.
The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a
huge organization which focuses its attention to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Its
mission statement is: “Founded in 1985, the American Association of Cardiovascular
and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) is dedicated to our mission of reducing
morbidity, mortality and disability from cardiovascular and pulmonary disease through
education, prevention, rehabilitation, research and disease management. Central to the

A major publication involved in cardiopulmonary rehab is, The Journal of
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention. It is an official journal of the American
Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Canadian
Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation. This journal is the only professional journal for
the entire cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation team. The journal is published
as an abstract, full text, and a PDF.
An undergraduate degree program for exercise science covers material ranging
from human anatomy and exercise physiology to psychology and weight management.
Classes can vary from biomechanics, physics, and inorganic chemistry to stress

I went onto iTunes and searched for an app that could be used to update and
guide someone if they were confused and I found an app called, Journal of
Cardiopulmonary and Rehabilitation and Prevention. It was created by Wolters Kluwer
Health Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. It looked to be a journal format of the different
areas within each portion of the job.
According to Education Portal the job description for a cardiopulmonary
rehabilitation specialist is: “A cardiac rehab therapist, also called a cardiac rehab
specialist, develops nutrition, exercise and education programs to promote wellness and
strengthen patients who have had heart surgery or who have chronic heart disease.
Education required for cardiac rehab therapists includes a bachelor's degree, but a
graduate degree in physiology, exercise science or kinesiology is often preferred.” (“Cardiac

A real job that I found for this career path had a description of: “RN to work in
Cardiac Rehab inpatient, outpatient departments. Duties include ambulation, education
and promotion of outpatient program to inpatients post-acute MI, CABG, and cardiac
cath. Outpatient departments include evaluation, education and telemetry monitoring of
cardiac patients during early recovery and long term maintenance programs. Heart
failure screening and education of inpatients. Opportunity exists to cover additional
resource hours and heart failure education program.”

Salary ranges for entry level positions range from eighteen-thousand to thirtythousand dollars. The job outlook is excellent and it only takes two-four years of

The job description of a sports and fitness nutritionist is defined as: “A sports
and fitness nutritionist is responsible for teaching athletes and fitness enthusiasts’
effective ways to improve their health, optimize their performance and manage their
weight. Nutritionists may advise individuals on dietary practices, exercise and use of

this career path, you are trying to assess the client’s lifestyle, eating habits, training
schedule and their use of supplements to make them long term goals.
The International Society of Sports Nutrition is a huge organization involved in
sports nutrition. The ISSN mission statement is: “The International Society of Sports
Nutrition is the only non-profit academic society dedicated to promoting the science and
application of evidence-based sports nutrition and supplementation.” "About Us at the ISSN."
A publication involved in sports nutrition is the Journal of International Society of
Sports Nutrition. It focuses on the acute and chronic effects of sports nutrition and
strategies on body consumption and performance. In order to get their information
across, the journal publishes their final product in an abstract, full text, PDF file, ePUB,
and on the PubMed website. It is electronically published.
I went onto iTunes and found two apps that I thought would be very beneficial
to this job. The first one was GNC Live Well App created by Health & Fitness. This app
has a wide range of the different types of foods and information to help you live well. I
also found Sports Nutrition and Supplements also created by Health & Fitness. This app
informs the user about the different types of supplements and the nutritional values
that you should follow.
Courses that are required in order to become a sports nutritionist include and
range from a wide variety from introduction to nutrition, principles of food and science,

An actual job description that I found was: “This position will coordinate with
athletic trainers, sport psychologist, strength and conditioning staff and team physician

Physical Therapist
A physical therapist is defined by the American Physical Therapy Association as:
“Health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from
newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health-related
conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily
lives.” "Role of a Physical Therapist." A physical therapist is in charge of examining each
individual and developing a plan of treatment using techniques to promote the ability to
move, reduce pain, and restore function that has been lost for some reason. They are
working one-on-one with that individual until the problem has been solved.
The American Physical Therapy Association is a huge organization that is
involved in any physical therapists career. Its mission statement is as follows: “The
mission of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the principal membership
organization representing and promoting the profession of physical therapy, is to
further the profession's role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement
dysfunctions and the enhancement of the physical health and functional abilities of
members of the public.” "APTA."
A major publication involved within the physical therapy field is the Journal of
American Physical Therapy Association. They provide everything from e-letters,
podcasts, journals, videos and discussion sessions. This association does a fantastic job

An app that I found within the iTunes library was called Physical Therapy
Content Master. This app was created by a group called, Scorebuilders. It is a app
designed to provide academic information to the ten unique system and non-system
categories. It makes remembering and learning the material enjoyable. The layout
looks very user friendly.
Physical therapy school can be difficult. Some of the pre-requisites that are
required include: chemistry, physics, physiology, calculus, all the way to English classes.
There is a wide range of classes that need to be taken to make you an all-around

I found an actually job as a physical therapist. The job description was: “The
Physical Therapist is assigned to the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Program located
within the Extended Care Rehabilitation Service at the St. Louis VA Healthcare System
and will be assigned to provide professional, physical therapy services to any/all
program areas that are covered by Rehabilitation Services including acute care,
rehabilitation, long term care, home care and outpatient settings. Duties include, but
are not limited to: Performs complex physical therapy evaluations and treatments for
patients aged 20 - 85+ years old. Plans and executes the full range of specialized
interventions and treatment modalities. Assesses for and requests prosthetic/orthotic

The average salary of a physical therapist is approximately seventy-eight
