You are the Judge (Modified Requirements):

You will research Two Supreme Court cases in which one of the Bill of Rights amendments was involved in the case. You will put together a “Supreme Court and the Bill of Rights” report (at least one page for each court case). This will be a 45 point project. On each Supreme Court case page you will need the following:

 The name and year of the Supreme Court Case.

 Explanation of what happened to set up this case.

 Describe the Bill of Rights issue that is involved in this case.

 Brief description of the arguments/point of view of both sides.

 Using the Bill of Rights amendments, how would you decide on the case?

 Describe the Supreme Court’s decision and how this decision has affected you.

Your report should be bind together with all of the court cases that you researched.

There needs to be a cover for your report. Information should be typed neatly onto each page. Each page should allow the reader to find the information easily in your report.

Please be creative. If you choose to make each page colorful, you may print off your pages at home but you must work on your report during the time that we spend in the computer lab or library. You may want to bring your own flash drive if you work on this at home and at school. The more professional and neat the report is, the better! (Points will not be taken off if everything is in black ink).

The following are a list of Supreme Court cases that you may choose to research:

 Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier

New Jersey v. T.L.O.

 Goss v. Lopez

Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District

Gideon v. Wainwright

Miranda v. Arizona

New York Times Co. v. Sullivan

New York Times Co. v. United States

Wisconsin v. Yoder

 Mapp v. Ohio

 If you find a court case that involves the Bill of Rights then you may use it.

Please let your teacher know before you get into the case.
