• Elizabethan pertaining to the reign of Queen Elizabeth
• Perpendicular style the third historical division of English Gothic architecture, so called because of its emphasis on vertical lines
• portrait miniatures A miniature portrait painting, usually executed in gouache, watercolor, or enamel. Portrait miniatures began
to flourish in 16th century Europe, and the art was practiced during the 17th century and 18th century.
• Serjeant Painters Painters of lower rank, who worked under the King's (or Queen's) painters.
• Tudor arch a low, wide type of arch with a pointed apex, much wider than its height and appearing to have been flattened under
pressure; the structure achieved by drafting two arcs which rise steeply from each springing point on a small radius and then
