Part III: Service Trips
1) Please rank trips in order of preference (1 for your 1st choice, 2 for your 2nd choice, etc.). For more
information on trips, please see the CCE website, http://www.indstate.edu/publicservice/. Volunteers will
be selected and placed based on their applications and trip choices.
2) When ranking trips, please keep in mind that you will only be placed on a trip that you rank. If there is a
trip you do not want to participate in, do not rank it. We will not place you on a trip you do not rank!
3) Volunteers will be assigned to trips by the staff of the Center for Community Engagement.
4) While some of the organizations we partner with have a religious foundation, volunteers will not be
engaging in any religious activities and will only be supporting the social services side of the organization.

in this application. Our partner organizations do their absolute best to accommodate us, but we are
volunteering to serve their needs. If their needs change, we ask you to be flexible and embrace the

STUDENT LEADER ROLE
Goal Statement
ASB is a student-driven national movement that creates opportunities for students to reach out to communities
around the nation and beyond. It fosters a lifelong commitment to citizenship and community engagement. While
participating in ASB, students will gain knowledge, learn practical skills, and become more aware of the many
social and environmental issues in the United States and around the globe.
Role of an ASB student leader
Pre-trip
o Participate in all student leader training/orientations.
o Direct involvement with ASB participant application review, interview and team selection process.
o Attend regular meetings with ASB staff.
o Bi-monthly: ASB Student Organization Meetings
o Collaborate with the ASB participants in fundraising, marketing/public relations, trip logistics, curriculum,
and trip development.
o Work with the CCE Graduate Assistant and CCE Program Coordinator in pre-trip preparation and post-trip
experiences.
o Facilitate team meetings, including:
 Educational curriculum.
 Teambuilding activities.
 Personal and group reflection.
Trip
o Fulfill leadership role while on trip.
o Direct involvement with execution of trip logistics.
o Facilitate and coordinate team activities and reflections.
Post-trip
o Work with the CCE staff to create and administer post-trip surveys.
o Coordinate team debriefing activities/meetings.
o Organize the development of post-trip presentation.
General Qualifications for an ASB student leader
o Willing to advance personal level of cultural competency.
o Exudes strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
o Experience working with a team or group.
o Organized, self-motivated and detail-oriented.
o Facilitation skills with group discussion, activities and meetings.
o Willingness to be flexible.
o Good university standing (grades and discipline).
