Informational text is their focus right now
Joining up with Science and Social Studies to work on informational text strategies
They have developed professional development resources for districts to use to teach educators
about ELA common core. These are located on their website.
All are welcome to come to their meetings even if you aren’t typically ELA curriculum related.
Work sessions are scheduled and posted on their website. Come for all or part of the time.
4)SLARA
 A+ students must now score advanced or proficient on Algebra I EOC; if students need to retest,
a waiver needs to be sent to DESE before the student tests so scores will not be included in
district/building accountability
 Discussion about 8th grade Algebra I scores will stay at the 8th grade building and not be banked
for HS. 8th graders must take either Algebra I or grade level MAP test. Cannot take both.
 Concerns that some individual student ACT and AP scores were not correct in MSIP 5 draft
 Concerns about districts getting ASVAB and COMPASS scores
 Concerns about TSA scores and the limited amount of approved assessments posted in the MSIP
5 guidance document at this point
9:15 a.m.

Cesademo.standardsinsight.org (don’t enter www prior to the URL)
 Username: cesademo
 Password: 1289
 Vickie showed this online resource to the group.
 Vickie will let Dave Sanders know we are interested in this as a resource.
Two other online resources - Next Navigator can be bought through CSD at a 33% discount for 25 licenses per building
 Galileo K-12 – formative assessment service was discussed by some districts as helpful
These could help teachers create assessments that adjust to the 40% content and 60% application that is
the shift for math assessment.
Dana Humphrey and Jan Keenoy will be two resources available through CSD to support common core;
hopefully, by next semester.
9:45 a.m.
DESE Updates
While DESE won’t be present, we will all “Share What We Know and/or
Understand”.
Notes:
 DESE webinars on ELA and Math geared more for teachers (Scroll to the bottom of the
webpages for the webinar recordings.)
 Model Curriculum is there
 Glossary of terms for ELA; up for comment
 Missouri State Literacy Plan

One district had a concern with MOSIS numbers. Some districts are not finding student
numbers, so they assign a new one. This creates a situation where the sending district gets a
“drop”. In Illinois, every student that walks out the door, they make sure there is a hard copy of
their IL “MOSIS numbers” and info to transfer.
10:00 a.m.
Missouri Education Evaluation System and Its Impact on Our Work
A dialogue within our group to share insights, wonderings and decisions
that have been made within districts which might guide or impact the
role of curriculum and curriculum coordinators
Notes:
 Some concern about lack of training.
 Dialogue included how some districts are aligning their current evaluation tools to the state
requirements.
11:00 a.m.
MSIP 5
A dialogue within our group to share insights from the draft reports
released last week. Develop questions and/or recommendations to
share with DESE and/or SMCCA.
Notes:
After lengthy discussion, the group decided to send a letter to DESE sharing feedback regarding MSIP 5
and the draft report. A link was created on the SLACCA wiki for members to post additional concerns
and feedback. Comments will be used to generate and send a letter on behalf of the organization.
