Chapter Presentations
Our study of Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights (1847) will be a student led effort. A panel of
students will be assigned to lead the class discussion for each chapter grouping. Student leaders are
expected to do the following:
1) Highlight the major events of the chapters.
2) Analyze and evaluate the behavior of the major characters.
3) Formulate at least one strongly worded belief statement that could be shaped into a thesis,
related to setting, plot, characterization, and/or theme.
4) Formulate at least three discussion questions for their fellow students.
5) Bring at least one visual aid inspired by an image or event in the assigned chapters.
--Students should individually compose a typed, one-page sheet of notes from which they may
choose to read. It will be submitted at the end of each presentation.
*In these earlier chapters, it is appropriate for the student leaders to speculate and predict. You’re
helping the class to make sense of the chapters.
The more the panel can work together to discuss the book, the better, but they are expected to do
each of the steps above individually. They may take many liberties with the assignment to garner
creativity points, but they must leave the class enlightened on the assigned reading. Panels must
encourage audience participation, as well.
It may take more than one day to discuss each of the chapter groups. Missing class on your
assigned presentation day will result in a deduction in points, regardless of excuse. If you
know you’re going to be out, you may arrange to switch days with another student, just alert me of
the change.
