Grading and Reporting

Skyward is updated weekly. Go to
www.pearlandisd.org to access your
child’s grades.

There are many ways to know how your
child is doing in class.

Please do not let progress report grades or
report card grades surprise you.

Check grades regularly in Skyward. If you
have questions, please contact me.
Daily Folder
Homework and home
readers go home Monday
and are due Friday.
 No homework = Work
habits mark
 Please send homework
folder daily for extra
notes during the week.
 A daily behavior report is
included in the homework
folder. Please check and
initial.

I will . . .
… be kind.
… listen and follow directions at all times.
… stay on task. (Do what I should do when I
should do it.)
… be polite (don’t interrupt or disturb).
… organize and care for supplies.
… accept responsibility for my own behavior.
… respect other people’s rights and property.
… help others when I can.
Conduct Folders

Weekly conduct and work habits marks
(Please note that the grades recorded are
for the previous week.)

Graded papers (There should ALWAYS be
some.)

Newsletters and other school information
PLEASE CHECK WEEKLY TO KEEP UP
WITH YOUR CHILD’S PERFORMANCE
AND ANY UPCOMING EVENTS.
Conduct and Work Habits

Students begin each grading period with
an E in both conduct and work habits.

Conduct folder shows number of marks
earned each week. No weekly grade.

Time out of recess for each conduct mark.

Zero conduct marks in a grading period =
reward!
Progress Reports &
Report Cards

“Nine-week” grading periods

Progress reports: MA means missing
assignment and equals a zero. * means
grade has not yet been entered.

Report cards are generally sent home with
the student the week after the grading
period ends.

Parents essentially receive a grade report
every 3 or 4 weeks.
Subject Areas

The TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills) are the state content requirements
for every subject area.

You may find these on the TEA website,
tea.texas.gov.

In both math and reading, I will utilize
whole group and small group instruction
as well learning stations.
Dress Code

Dress code is online at pearlandisd.org.

Please read it carefully and follow the
guidelines.

Knit pants are not permitted. Leggings
are not pants, but may be worn
underneath skirts or shorts.

It may be a good idea to include
extra clothes in case of restroom
or playground mishaps.
BYOD (Bring Your Own
Device)

Information was in your child’s registration
packet.

Students may bring these to use before
school in the cafeteria, during independent
reading IF they have on-line books, or during
indoor recess.

Devices may not be used during dismissal.

Students may not use their devices to take
pictures or videos.
Tutoring
Reading and math tutoring
will be by invitation.
ANY child may come in on
Wednesdays at 7:15 for
extra help or to finish
work.
Late Work

On most afternoons, students will have
opportunities to finish their work.

If work is not completed during the week
it was assigned, I will send home a note
requesting that your child come to school
the following Wednesday at 7:15.

When you see “MA” for missing
assignment in Skyward, know that this is
NOT homework. It is class work and
must be completed at school.
Communication: Peek

The Peek at the Week informs you
of what is being taught each week
and includes timely reminders.

The Peek will be updated each
Friday on my school web page.

Every Monday, a Peek at the
Week will be attached to the
week’s homework.

Messages are also sent through
Skyward and e-mail.
Communication: Web Page

To access my school web page, go to the
school website and find my name in
second grade.

The page includes our class schedule, the
Peek, homework advice, resources,
Skyward access, a classroom wish list,
and other helpful information.
Please DO Feed the Kiddoes

Breakfast is incredibly important!

If your child is running late, please
send her/him to school with something
to eat (banana, toast, apple).

Breakfast is served in the café each
morning.

Children may bring a snack daily.
Please keep it as healthy and as neat
as possible (NO Cheetos, Doritos,
chocolate, or any liquids).
Growth Through Service
Students in my class will have several
opportunities to participate in a
service project. We will meet monthly
or bimonthly on Saturdays.
Children will learn about one another,
our community, and themselves
through these efforts! All participants
MUST be accompanied by a parent or
guardian.
Caldecott Celebration

In May, second grade will have an
event at Southwyck Park to
celebrate the Caldecott we have
read this year.

Teachers will read these books in
class.

I will select four of the titles for
which each student will be
expected to either take an AR test,
complete a graphic organizer, or
retell the story to me.
Class Parties
Winter party, Valentine party,
End-of-year party
Volunteers have signed up to
coordinate all three parties! Thank
