Designed, executed, and analyzed laboratory and field research to evaluate the effectiveness
of pesticides for indoor residual spraying for malaria control in experimental huts.
Assembled and monitored trapping methods for stable fly field studies. Utilized World
Health Organization guidelines for pesticide efficacy studies. Completed molecular assays to
determine mosquito subspecies groups. Screened newly developed botanical repellents for
contact irritancy and mortality in mosquitoes. Managed project and multiple four person field
teams in a cross-cultural environment. Monitored and evaluated project progress to
streamline procedures. Provided scientific and English edits for presentations and written
documents.

DOCTORAL RESEARCH.
Executed toxicological experiments and utilized molecular techniques for data collection.
Provided integrated pest management consultation to community stakeholders and pest
control companies. Expertise areas include vector borne disease, pest management,
pesticides, toxicology, international extension, and program design. Responsible for record
keeping and contributing to reports required for funding agency (USDA-NIFA) and animal
care regulation compliance, as was necessary for brown dog tick rearing. Techniques
included DNA extraction, cloning, sequencing, and statistical analysis. Analyzed, interpreted,
and evaluated toxicological and molecular data to monitor research objectives. Participated in
community educational outreach events. Coordinated invited seminar speakers and
departmental social functions. Mentored incoming graduate students. Produced seven
presentations, three extension documents, and three peer reviewed publications (published or
under review).

EPIDEMIOLOGIST.
Conducted communicable disease surveillance and implemented control measures under
government public health codes. Led investigations, monitored domestic and imported
diseases, and community outbreaks with expertise in gastrointestinal (food and waterborne)
and vector borne pathogens. Reviewed confidential medical records, completed client
interviews, visited outbreak sites to provide consultations. Completed comprehensive
questionnaires, conducted interviews, and maintained detailed medical records. Participated
in herpes zoster reduction initiatives by directing mass vaccine distribution clinics. Wrote
standard operating procedures, coordinated specimen collection and anti-viral distribution,
consulted healthcare professionals and community members, and delegated emergency
response activities during the 2009 H1N1 flu epidemic. Worked on-call to address
emergency disease exposure consultation and off-hour community public health concerns.
Educated the community and health care professionals regarding disease prevention, public
health practice, and control activities.

INTERNATIONAL FIELD PROJECT.
Designed clinical parasite diagnostic and public health advocacy programs for an indigenous
community group to reduce disease morbidity and mortality. Identified community members
to serve as local program leaders, produced materials for training community leaders, which
were then used to educate community members. Collaborated with community members,
nongovernmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health to achieve a sustainable program
in a resource poor setting.

Directed the compliance of public health regulations and inspected state licensed facilities.
Responded to community public health concerns, then negotiated with and consulted
stakeholders to resolve public health hazards. Coordinated and co-lead a committee to
summarize legal codes and standardized inspection processes. Attended disaster relief and
hazard abatement training. Constructed and delivered community outreach presentations on
food safety. Nominated for and completed the Cultivating Successful Leaders program.
