Emergency Lesson Plans
CIVICS/SOCIAL STUDIES EMERGENCY LESSONS: (Periods 1,2,3,5)
Lesson #1: (This lesson can be used more than once because there are many court cases in the text.)
Students will choose a Supreme Court case from pages R14-R24 in the back of their textbook. They will read the
significance, background and decision in the case and then write an essay explaining: 1) why they think this case is
important and 2) reasons why they agree or disagree with the majority opinion of the Court in this case.
Lesson #2:
Students will read the text page 402 about Miranda Warnings and Juveniles and then answer the Analysis Skills
questions on a separate sheet of paper.
Lesson #3:
Students will read the Criminal Justice Handbook, pp.402a-410 and then answer the Assessment questions on page 410.
Lesson#4:
Students will read the articles and analyze the maps on p.424-425 and answer the Analysis Skill questions for each
reading/map.

WORLD HISTORY EMERGENCY LESSONS (Periods 4,6)
Lesson #1: Look up the "Florida...The Story Continues" at the beginning of chapters FL1 an FL2 (see pages 1-2, 23, 49, 81,
119, 155, 197, 223, etc...) and make a Timeline of Important Events in Florida History.
Lesson #2: Read Chapter 1, section 2 (pp.12-17) and answer the questions 1-5 on p.17
Lesson #3: Complete the Chapter 1 Review (pp.21-22) questions 1-9, and 11-15
Lesson #4: Read text pp.FL34-FL35 (at the beginning of the text) on "ECONOMIC SYSTEMS" and copy, then answer, the
following questions:
1) Who makes economic decisions in each of the following economic systems:
a) traditional economy
b) command economy
c) market economy
d) mixed economy
2) Which of these 4 types of economic systems is used in the U.S.? Defend your answer.
3) Before money was invented, how did people get goods and services? Why is using currency better than this old
system?
4) How has trade affected countries: a) in a positive way? b) in a negative way?
5) Define: globalization
