Speaker Series
“Memories of 1948”
Join us on Tuesday, November 17th
for our monthly Speaker Series
by Full Bloom!
“The first prefab, post war housing1.
was starting to appear in order to solve housing shortages as they could be
built quickly to accommodate the growing need and were cheap to build and
for people to buy. The quality was not great but they did enable the baby
boom after the war years by providing young couples with a home to start
their family. Television was first regarded by many as “radio with pictures,”
and although a set cost about $400—a substantial sum at the time—TV was
soon “catching on like a case of high-toned scarlet fever. That year, Alfred M.
Butts, an architect, created a new board game that would sell in the millions.
It was an election year and Chicago Daily Tribune got the results wrong!! A
new sculpture in the Black Hills got its start.”
Art Class with the Students from Minnetonka
High!
th
Join us Wednesday, November 4 at 3:30 for an
art class with the members of the Art Club at
Minnetonka Senior High School! We had so
much fun learning new art techniques and
painting with them last year and this year is to
be no different! They will be coming to Trails
monthly to work on various art projects with us!
Maybe we’ll even get the chance to visit the
high school again like we did last year to see
their school’s art gallery! Come join us and find
the inner artist in you!
Statue of Liberty: Two Decades of Effort, Almost
Impossible Odds
The Statue of Liberty stands proudly in
New York Harbor, but how did the Statue
come to be? What does it symbolize?
Join us on Friday, November 20th at 1:30
for a compelling look at the idea, the
construction and the meaning behind
one of the most recognizable symbols in
the world. Our guest speaker is
David Jones of Minneapolis. He has been
speaking to a wide range of audiences
since 1996. He has made over 400
presentations to more than 11,000 people.

According to Dr. Cynthia Green,
“Build your visual focus and memory
by playing some good old-fashioned
Concentration. Divide a deck of
playing cards in half, taking two of
each kind of card. Place all the cards
face down on a table. Now, turning
two cards over at a time, try to find
all the matching pairs. A German
study found subjects who became
proficient at the game boosted their
visual memory and overall IQ.”
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to the following
residents, who will be celebrating
their birthdays in the month of
November. Let’s all wish them a
very happy and joyous day!

Riddle Me This:
I have many feathers to help me fly. I
have a body and head, I’m not alive. It
is your strength which determines how
far I go. You can hold me in your hand,
but never throw.
What am I?
