FUNDAMENTALS
Work Environment
Located in West Melbourne. This position works with young people in an Outreach capacity and travel within
the Metro CBD and outer regions is expected. Will be required to regularly travel to designated regions, to head
office and sub offices and for stakeholder engagement.
Working Conditions




This is a part time (0.9 EFT) ongoing contract. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Flexible
work arrangements can be facilitated where it can be demonstrated all work requirements can be
fulfilled.
Salary is ranged at $46,007.52 – 49330.32 (Pro-Rata) based on experience and qualifications plus
superannuation. Salary packaging applies to this position.
An extra 3 annual leave days are granted during the Christmas period.

 Coordinate and facilitate an engagement program in Parkville
Youth Justice Precinct (PYJP)
 Develop close working relationship with PYJP management and
staff to actively promote the program, strengthen referral
pathways and to gain referrals
 To broaden Whitelion involvement in the PYJP
 Attend referral meetings, conduct assessments and devise
support plans for clients
 Review support plan on a six monthly basis
 Provide information, support, advocacy and referral to young
people on an individual outreach basis
 Maintain concise and accurate support plans and case notes using
the SYARD Database
 Maintain a strong working relationship with professionals
involved with young people
 Attend professionals meetings for young people as appropriate
 Refer young people to other Whitelion programs as appropriate
 Assist in the development of group work and projects
 Organise, resource and facilitate programs in the community
 Participate in planning and consultation to determine which
group programs should be run
 Support young people to participate in group programs
 Work with Program Manager to identify service gaps and develop
ideas for new programs and projects within ROAR.
 Work with team to identify gaps and develop ideas for new
programs and projects
 Evaluate new programs / projects and determine if sustainable
 Assist with funding submissions, progress reports and acquittals
where required

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
 To support 10 - 15 young people at any given time (.9 EFT)
 To provide a minimum of fortnightly support
 To ensure all young people are supported by the program have a Support Plan and this is reviewed every
six months
 To complete professional case notes on SYARD in a timely manner
 To complete ongoing evaluations for all young people
 To facilitate regular group programs in the community
 To grow the ROAR program in the region
 To provide referrals to other Whitelion / OFA programs as relevant to the young person
 To provide external referrals where appropriate
 To ensure that the PYJP Program is conducted at least weekly
 To attend regular network and stakeholder meetings to promote program and increase referral pathways.
Key Selection Criteria
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant tertiary qualification in youth work, social work, psychology, social science or related area
and/or demonstrated relevant employment experience
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE









Understanding of the needs of young people involved with the Youth Justice and Child Protection systems
Demonstrated commitment and ability to work effectively with young people, their families and
communities
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport and trust
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
Experience/ability to run group programs in both community and custodial environments
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to undertake a police check and Working with Children Check.
Hold a current Victorian driver’s licence and be prepared to drive.
