3rd Grade-1/26-1/30
Reading &Phonics: Every morning we review
phonics/reading/math skills by doing drops-in-a-bucket.
The students have their own binders and once done they
take their sheets home for the week. We will also be
working on vowel/consonant vowel blends, author’s
purpose, developing intonation, and pronounantecedent agreement. We will continue to discuss cause
and effect in stories. We will read, Hey Bug, One Small
Place in a Tree, and Be a Birdwater. Also, we will
continue reading, The Report Card as a class.
Writing: We practice writing every day in our journals.
Students get to pick a topic under the suggested topic
page. We are continuing writing the main idea in the
beginning of each paragraph, followed by 3 details, and a
closing sentence. This format is used for journals as well.
Writing is incorporated in all subjects. We will also
continue model writing on smart board.
Math: We are continuing our lesson on multiplication
tables. This week we will review facts 7, 8, and 9. We will
also learn multiples of 11 and 12. We will extend our
lessons by solving math problems in math centers,
multiplication games, and video clips. Next week we will
begin our lesson on pre- algebra. Please be sure your
children continue to practice memorizing the
multiplication tables in order for them to be ready for
pre-algebra.
Social Studies & Science: This week we will read Chapter 8, in social studies. We will learn about government and how it
works. Some topics we will be covering are: community services, government in action, citizenship, and state government.
We will also present our transportation maps as a class. We will also learn vocabulary words that are part of the chapter:
mayor, local government, city council, capital, governor, tax. In Science, we will continue to exploring motion, gravity, and
cause and effect. We will do some hands-on experiments in class that connects to our lessons.
