COURSE SYLLABUS
IS3401 (Supply Chain Management)
Department of information system
Salman Ben Abdulaziz University
Course description: The course will explore the major elements of the supply chain.
The student will be exposed to leading edge thinking on supply chain strategy as well
as practical tools and methods for its implementation. One of the key challenges
companies face in today’s globalized marketplace is synchronizing supply
with demand. Companies must support their marketing plans with the delivery of
goods and services sourced from diverse and distant lands. Consumer demand has
become creasing uncertain and subject to accelerated variability. Companies must not
only compete on price, but also meet consumer expectations for service
and, increasingly, sustainability.
We introduce students to the methods companies use to address this challenge, namely
in the design and management of demand chains, with consideration of costeffectiveness as well as environmental and social responsibility. Topics include
demand forecasting, global facility and network design, aggregate planning, inventory
management, transportation and coordination. The class entails quantitative analysis
and computer applications, with attention to writing and presenting conclusion
