Bible Verses on Purity (all ESV)
Colossians 3:5–10
5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality,
impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6
On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too
once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put
them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from
your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off
the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is
being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Proverbs 4:23–27
23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of
life. 24 Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far
from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be
straight before you. 26 Ponder the path of your feet; then all your
ways will be sure. 27 Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn
your foot away from evil.
2 Timothy 2:22
22
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and
peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
1 Corinthians 6:18–20
18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is
outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his
own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the
Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your
own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your
body.
1 Corinthians 10:13
13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God
is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but
with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you
may be able to endure it.
Galatians 5:16–17
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of
the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the
desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to
each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Matthew 5:27–30
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful
intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your
right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is
better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body
be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it
off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your
members than that your whole body go into hell.
1 Thessalonians 4:3–5
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from
sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his
own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the
Gentiles who do not know God;
1 Peter 5:8
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls
around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
James 4:7
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you.
1 Timothy 5:1–2
1 Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a
father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger
women as sisters, in all purity.

Ephesians 6:10–13
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against
the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and
blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the
cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces
of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor
of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand firm.
Galatians 5:22–23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things
there is no law.
Psalm 119:9–11
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according
to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander
from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Ephesians 5:1–4
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in
love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant
offering and sacrifice to God. 3 But sexual immorality and all
impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is
proper among saints. 4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor
crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be
thanksgiving.
2 Corinthians 7:1
1 Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves
from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to
completion in the fear of God.
Romans 12:1–2
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present
your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is
your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may
discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and
perfect.
Romans 6:12–13
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey
its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for
unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have
been brought from death to life, and your members to God as
instruments for righteousness.
Colossians 3:1–4
1 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are
above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your
minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For
you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When
Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in
glory.
1 John 2:15–17
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves
the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the
world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride
of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world
is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of
God abides forever.
Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever
is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy
of praise, think about these things.
