Dear parishioners,
Tue July 23
Fri July 26
Someone told me once that you make a person feel
worthwhile when you give them a while of your time.
It’s something that Jesus did very well. He paid
attention. He listened well. He addressed their needs,
not his.

Children
Abraham and Sarah showed outstanding hospitality!
Abraham doesn’t wait for the men to come to him.
He runs to them and tells them to come in. He bathes
their feet, puts them in the shade, and prepares a good
meal for them. Abraham was a desert nomad. He
knew what it was to be hot, tired, and dusty. His
guests needed cooling off and resting.
Martha, too, is a great hostess—even though she got
chided for being too busy about many things. Mary,
the gospel says, had chosen the better part because she
sat still and listened to Jesus. Somewhere in the
middle is the truth. We need to do both—be a Martha
and a Mary.
Don’t we feel special when someone makes us a nice
meal or makes us a cup of tea or puts a quick bouquet
of flowers in our room or lays out some of our favorite
things—a magazine or book, a candy on the pillow, a
cozy blanket.
But don’t we love it too when someone really listens
without telling his/her own story or giving advice or
dismissing our feelings? Isn’t it nice when someone
puts down their pen or silences their cell phone or
turns off their i-Pad and really listens?
How well am I doing with showing people they are
worthwhile by showing them acceptance and
outstanding hospitality?

Many dioceses in the United States do not have
enough priests and trained lay ministers to serve
their parishes. These dioceses are known as home
missions. The Catholic Home Missions Appeal
supports these dioceses by funding essential
ministries, including seminary education and lay
ministry training. Please be generous in this Appeal
and help strengthen the Church at home.

The Bluffton Community Worship Service will be next
Sunday, July 28 at 9:00 a.m. on the Presbyterian Church lawn.
In case of rain, the service will be held in the middle school
cafetorium. This worship service comes at the end of a week
of Vacation Bible School hosted at the First Mennonite
Church. The theme for the service is “Many Gifts, One Spirit”,
growing out of the VBS curriculum. Worship will include
music by the children who attended VBS and several brief
reflections about the new things that are happening in the
community. Again there will be a general offering which will
be given to the Bluffton Food Pantry. Everyone is asked to
bring a lawn chair or blanket.
Discover Natural Family Planning
CELEBRATE AND REVERENCE GOD’S VISION OF HUMAN
SEXUALITY. Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an umbrella
term for modern, healthy, scientifically accurate, and reliable
methods of family planning. NFP methods are different from
and better than artificial contraception because they
cooperate with, rather than suppress, a couple's fertility; can
be used both to achieve and avoid pregnancy; call for shared
responsibility and cooperation by husband and wife; require
spousal communication; foster respect for and acceptance of
the total person; have no harmful side effects; and are
virtually cost free. NFP is unique because it enables its users
to work with the body rather than against it. Fertility is
viewed as a reality to live, not a problem to be solved.
