Campus Presentation Briefing Notes
The campus presentation is our first visit of the season to a university and is therefore
critical to the graduate recruitment process. We should take this opportunity to inform
students of who we are, where we are headed and why they should choose us as a place
to work ahead of our competitors. Students are interested in finding out about our entire
organisation (UBS AG), as well as details on the specific jobs they could be considered
for and the opportunities they present.
Format of the presentation
The presentation not only acts as a selling tool for us, it is also a way of identifying high
potential candidates at an early stage. The presentation allows students to approach us in
an informal setting and to obtain further information on our organisation, culture,
opportunities, people, training etc.

About our campaign
The Unlimited campaign is now in its second year and continues to be successful in
targeting our campus audience. It is based around:
- Growth - the real potential of being part of one of the largest financial services
organisations in the world. Our size, scope and power should not be underestimated!
- People - the most frequent reason for joining one organisation over another is the
people the students meet during their process. You need to be approachable, inspiring,
dynamic, cosmopolitan and helpful!
- Opportunity - early responsibility and no barriers to success within the organisation
- What we have to offer - this is unlimited in terms of growth, potential, innovation,
vision, ambition, education, responsibility and diversity.
Marketing
This year we are recruiting not only for UBS Warburg, but also for UBS Private Banking
and UBS Asset Management. As a result, the majority of our marketing tools are triple
branded.
Unlimited Film - this represents UBS Warburg only and portrays us as a global organisation
of cohesive business areas. It contains 7 employee profiles from Corporate Finance,
Research, Sales, Trading, Operations and IT. It was filmed in London, New York, Stamford
and Tokyo. The film is designed to be non-corporate, introducing our culture and people. It
therefore depicts an honest, fun and upbeat firm, designed to appeal to our target
audience.
Foam Pack - contains a mini brochure and a CD-rom. The brochure provides concise
information about the firm, business areas and training programmes. The CD-rom contains
the Unlimited film and 12 short profiles from recent graduates in the firm. It also contains
financial modelling tools such as a DCF model and a target multiple calculator.
Business-specific leaflets - each business area has its own leaflet containing more details
about that area's structure and opportunities.
Give-aways - including mini rugby balls, pens, T-shirts, chocolates

Is UBS likely to merge with anyone else?
It is unlikely that we will see anything of the scope of PaineWebber in the near future.
The financial services industry continues to undergo consolidation and we would look at any
opportunity that made sense and strengthened our position in the industry. However, the
thought of mergers should not affect how you view opportunities at ANY financial
organisation.
How does UBS deal with issues such as diversity?
As a result of our mixed ancestry, we are very much an amalgam of different corporate
and national cultures. Our first step to address diversity was to charter a Global Diversity
Committee,
drawn from senior business leaders from around the globe. Its shared goals are:
- Raising awareness and developing leadership
- Attracting diverse talent
- Retaining and developing a diverse talent pool
- Establishing metrics and benchmarking
- Communicating and marketing our diversity efforts
- Supporting and expanding social and community activities
- Reviewing Human Resources policies, programs and processes
How did UBS respond to the terrorist attacks in the US?
No UBS offices in New York were directly affected by the attacks. UBS expressed profound
shock at the events and the scale of personal tragedy. Our deepest sympathies lie with
those whose loved ones, relatives, friends and colleagues were among the victims. On
ab
behalf of all UBS's businesses (UBS Warburg, UBS Asset Management, UBS Switzerland
and UBS PaineWebber), we have pledged to donate US$5,000,000 towards the relief
efforts.
Why is UBS still recruiting, despite the economic downturn?
UBS is committed to recruiting graduates in order to maintain a pipeline of top talent for
the future. Graduates are essential to that pipeline and we know that it is crucial to display
continuity in our recruiting on campus in spite of the current market conditions.
How has UBS’s business been affected by the economic slowdown?
The world economy is currently going into a co-ordinated recession although this is not
something that will persist indefinitely. We fully expect the world economy to return to trend
growth by 2003.
As an institution that thinks and acts for the long term, therefore, UBS is positioned to ride
out the next 12-18 months, confident that things will improve as next year progresses. We
invest a lot of time and effort in our people, and want them to be part of UBS for the
long term, so we make every effort to ensure that the short term fluctuations of the
economic cycle do not significantly impact our staff.
It may also be worth noting that we expect economic volatility to rise in the future, after
the relative stability of the 1990s. People might have to get used to this sort of an
environment.
