The Knight’s Code of Chivalry
What is Chivalry?
Chiv•al•ry | (shiv-uh l-ree)
n., pl. -ries
1. The medieval system, principles,
and customs of knighthood
2. The qualities idealized by
knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy,
honor, and gallantry toward women
3. The methods of training and
standards of behavior for knights in the
Middle Ages. The code of chivalry
emphasized bravery, military skill,
generosity in victory, piety, and courtesy
to women.
There are probably some familiar and
unfamiliar words in this definition.
You might know about generosity, courage,
and bravery, but do you know what is
meant by honor, gallantry, piety, or
courtesy?
