Chairman and CEO, Verizon Communications
140 West Street
New York, NY 10007
Dear Mr. McAdam:
I write to express my concern over reports that Verizon is set to move 1,100 employees from
your headquarters at 140 West Street in Lower Manhattan to Downtown Brooklyn. I urge you to
reconsider this action.
Verizon was a true partner in the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan after the attacks of September
11, 2001, and received substantial government assistance repairing the damage at the facility,
making 140 West Street its headquarters in Lower Manhattan in 2005. Verizon’s decision to
remain in Lower Manhattan was an important act that helped restore confidence and optimism to
the business and residential community. Verizon should remain an important partner in Lower
Manhattan.
The loss of the 1,100 Verizon employees that work at 140 West Street would be a particularly
heavy blow to local small businesses, many of which have endured years of construction with the
rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, and would move Lower Manhattan’s rebuilding in the wrong
direction. Completion of area construction and rebuilding is years away, and Verizon’s
commitment to Lower Manhattan and the 1,100 employees benefitting small businesses could
not be more important.
Thank you for your consideration of my concerns. As always, you may contact me with any
questions or concerns at (212) 298-5565 or squadron@nysenate.gov.
Sincerely,
Daniel Squadron
