What is available

The main types of finance accessed by students are detailed below. Full information on these and other types of finance can be found on the Direct Gov website: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance a.

Tuition Fee Loans

A loan to cover tuition fees is available and this is paid directly to your university or college once you’ve registered on your course. If you’re an EU student from outside the UK studying in England you can apply for a tuition loan if you meet certain conditions.

The Edge Hotel School is charging £9,000 a year for all undergraduate degree courses starting in academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15. Course fees are published on the Edge Hotel School website http://www.edgehotelschool.ac.uk/apply-hotel-degree/financing-your-studies/

We are committed to maintaining fees at the current published level for course duration but reserve the right to make increases in the overall fees during courses to reflect inflation and changes in available higher education funding. b.

Maintenance Loans

A living cost or maintenance loan is available to help with living costs each year of your course. Once you are registered this is paid into your bank account three times within a 12 month period, which may not be at the same time as accommodation payments are due.

The amount you get depends on where you live and study and your household income. This webpage should allow you to understand approximately how much you would receive which will help you develop a budget: https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-calculator c.

Maintenance Grants

You can also apply for a living cost grant or maintenance grant to help you with your living costs each year. You do not have to pay grants back. This is based on household income, so the amount depends on individual circumstances. d.

Disabled Students Allowance

If you have a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia) you can apply for a Disabled Students’ Allowance which does not need to be repaid. This is based on your needs, not household income.

2.

When to Apply

You should apply at least 3 months before the start date of your course, and earlier if possible.

There are peak times where processing takes longer, so if you start your course in September it will take longer for the forms to be processed by SLC. Please note, SLC general information will advise you to apply before the end of May – this is aimed at autumn start courses, and is therefore applicable to September starters.

If you are unable to apply in advance it may mean that your loan is not available to you at the point you register which you need to bear in mind when budgeting living costs.

You do not need a confirmed place on a course to apply, and you can change the course later on if you decide to study elsewhere.

Whilst you are studying, you will need to make a further application for the second year of study;

Edge Hotel School will remind you when it is time to do this.

How to Apply

You can apply for finance online at https://www.gov.uk/apply-online-for-student-finance

You will need certain institutional and course information in order to make your application and the following details will help you with these sections of the form.
