It is my pleasure to inform you that Mike Devlin will be joining us on January 4, 2016 as a Senior
Assistant Dean/Deputy Director of Admission. He will be reporting to Colleen Lim.
Mike started out as an Admission Counselor at his alma mater, University of Massachusetts Amherst,
and was promoted to an Assistant Director of Admission after a year. His primary responsibilities
included reviewing student applicants in the fields of Music, Art, and Dance; liaising with faculty to
increase enrollment for the Fine Arts Programs; organizing and overseeing the use of publications
used for travel; coordinating campus-wide resource fairs for prospective students and their families;
and co-organizing all Open House Events for admitted students.
In 2007, Mike moved on to New York University (NYU) where he worked directly with university deans
to set enrollment goals for freshman and transfer classes; managed the freshman and transfer
admission processes for the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, the
Silver School of Social Work, and the College of Nursing; oversaw the creation and implementation of
a new on-line application for the College of Nursing; oversaw the implementation of a new academic
scholar selection criteria to increase diversity in their student body; trained all new staff members in
public speaking and NYU presentation procedures; and managed three professional staff.
Since 2012 Mike has served as the Director of Admission for NYU Shanghai, the university’s newest
degree-granting campus. He was charged with the responsibility of building an admission office from
the ground up which provided him with the opportunity to manage staff across locations in New York,
Shanghai, and London. Mike also worked with university leadership to implement long-term plans for
outreach and enrollment and chaired all admission committees for the first three classes.
He received a B.A. in Political Science from UMass and a Master of Urban Planning from NYU’s
Wagner School of Public Service.
