Production Notes: The exceptional fruit used for the making of the
Sur Lie Chardonnay, received 2nd October 2006, was crushed and pressed
to a stainless steel tank upon arrival. Fermentation was undertaken using
D254 at a temperature of 16oC. Post fermentation, the wine was kept on
lees for a period of 10 months, during which time battonage was performed
through peculation. After racking off gross lees, the wine was cold and
protein stabilized prior to sterile filtration.
Tasting Notes: What a super drop!
Light straw in color, the delicate
nose reveals elements of lemon and lime light citrus with a splash of flint
and lychee, melded subtly with tropical notes. Surrounding the fruit is a
well integrated nutty attribute, which carries through to the palate which is
full with almonds and hazelnuts, with lime and undertones, yet lush,
pineapple and mango. The crisp acidity coupled with the delicate heat,
provides a pearler of a finish. Perfect for absolutely any occasion which
warrants a drink. Get on board this Sur Lie express.
Reviews: The benefits of Sur Lie aging are twofold - additional
complexity without the added cost of oak barrel aging. This wine exhibits
plenty of yeast aromatics alongside baked apple, grapefruit and a touch of
cinnamon. It’s refreshing and medium-bodied with excellent structure and
pleasing richness on the finish. Pair with roasted turkey or game bird. 4/5
Stars. Mark Tandan, Wine Current, 2009.
