Membership Code of Conduct
The Aerospace Industries Association (“AIA”) is the premier trade association representing the United
States aerospace and defense industry.
AIA’s objectives are as follows: (a) promoting trade in the products and services of the aerospace industry
throughout the United States and the world; (b) advocating the correction of legal, regulatory, and market
abuses to the industry that may arise; (c) securing for the Association’s members and those persons, firms
or corporations dealing with them, freedom from unjust or unlawful exactions; (d) collecting and
disseminating accurate and reliable information concerning the aerospace industry; (e) advocating the
interests of the aerospace industry in legislative, administrative and judicial proceedings;
(f) acquiring, holding, and disposing of by any legal means such property or assets as the Association
requires; and (g) supporting the advancement of aeronautical and astronautical arts to benefit the industry
consistent with the public interest.
In pursuit of these objectives, the Association conducts periodic meetings of the Full and Associate
Membership, including the bi-annual Board of Governor’s and Membership Meeting, Regional Meetings,
Supplier Management Council Meetings, and various Council, Committee, Sub-Committee, and Working
Group meetings. In addition, AIA hosts several special events each year and facilitates member
participation in air shows around the world.
Meeting and Event Participation and Conduct
AIA expects members to conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner at all times during
membership meetings and events and abide by the following rules:
1. Full Members are expected to make a good faith effort to attend the bi-annual Board of
Governors & Membership Meeting, regional meetings, Supplier Management Council Meetings,
and special events.
2. Full Members are expected to designate representatives to participate in AIA’s councils and
committees.
3. Associate Members are expected to make a good faith effort to participate in the Supplier
Management Council Meetings and Regional Meetings.
4. Members are expected to arrive on-time to scheduled meetings, be prepared to actively participate
in the meetings, including sharing best practices, engaging with other members and speakers, and
completing any and all assignments.
5. Members and Association staff are to take affirmative action to avoid activity, discussions, or
exchanges of information not publicly available, whether formal or informal, involving the
following subjects:
a. Industry or product pricing policies;
b. Individual company costs of production or distribution;
c. The black-listing or boycotting of customers, suppliers, or others;
d. The allocation of customers, markets or production quotas; and
e. Conditions and terms of sale. This is not intended to preclude exchanges of information
on policies and procedures of government agencies, on possible alternative policies and
procedures of government agencies, on possible alternative policies and procedures, and
on the pros and cons of recommending changes to government agencies through the
Association. These exchanges shall not relate to the terms of a contract currently being
negotiated between one company and a contracting agency.
Non-Solicitation
While the Association encourages relationship building activities between the members at AIA sponsored
meetings and events, it does not condone direct solicitation. This means that:
1. Members may not use their presence at AIA meetings or events for the direct and immediate
purpose of selling their products and/or services;
2. Without express inquiry initiated by another member, solicitation is strictly prohibited during all
AIA member meetings;
3. Members may not distribute sales and marketing materials at member meetings;
4. Members may not undertake a mailing or email campaign using AIA membership contact
information for the purpose of selling their products/and or services; and
5. Members must exercise good business judgment during all AIA member meetings and refrain
from any behavior that could be considered or interpreted to be solicitation or harassment.
Failure to abide by this policy will lead to removal of a member from the meeting and could result in the
suspension of a company’s membership.
