The Aspen Institute: The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy
studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster
leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue
for dealing with critical issues. The Institute has campuses in Aspen,
Colorado, and on the Wye River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It also
maintains offices in New York City and has an international network of
partners.
About Aspen IFS: It is widely known that saving sparks
entrepreneurship, fuels growth in capital markets, builds the middle
class, and creates jobs for the future. But in an era of increasing income
volatility and inequality, many families struggle to build a financial
cushion, let alone a nest egg. The Aspen Initiative on Financial Security
promotes an in-depth exploration of the most critical financial challenges
facing America's families. Through the strategic use of convenings,
dialogues, briefings and publications, the program advances practical
financial products and policies that help hard working Americans
manage economic shocks, become more financially resilient, and get on
track to pursue their long term savings and investment goals. The
Initiative seeks to move stakeholder dialogue beyond diagnosis to
solutions that improve the financial security and financial well-being of
all Americans.
Bipartisan Leadership: We work with elected officials from across the
political spectrum, as well as top business executives, financial and
policy experts, academics and community leaders to create market-based
strategies to promote lifelong savings and financial success.
Pragmatic Approach: We combine real-world business analysis with the
most innovative policy ideas to strengthen the economy and help families
achieve the American dream.
Basic Function: Aspen IFS is seeking Interns who have deep interest in
policies that help American families manage economic shocks, become
more financially resilient, and get on track to pursue long term savings
and investment goals. Aspen IFS’ interns will assist with
communications, research, event planning and implementation, program
administration, and logistical support. Aspen IFS holds events at the
Aspen Institute’s Dupont Circle headquarters, Capitol Hill, the Aspen
Institute’s Wye River headquarters on the Eastern Shore of Maryland,
and in Aspen, Colorado.
Description of Internship: The Initiative on Financial Security at the
Aspen Institute (Aspen IFS) seeks a talented, versatile and energetic
graduate student or recent graduate to join our inter-disciplinary team.
Interns will assist with research and writing in all areas of Aspen IFS’
work, including financial issues, legislative affairs, and current events.
In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to be an integral part of
the day-to-day operations of a leading think tank. Duties will include
reviewing literature, news and Congressional action on financial services
reform, tax policy changes, trends in employer-sponsored retirement
savings plans, and savings policy related to children and low and
moderate income families. The intern will assist with writing and editing
of Aspen IFS issue briefs and other publications and contribute to the
planning and execution of Aspen IFS events in DC and Aspen facilities in
Aspen, Colorado and Wye River, Maryland.
The internship is structured as a 4-6-month position beginning in March
or April of 2015. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record
as well as excellent work planning, research and writing skills.
