Getting in contact early
The dust is beginning to settle after a hectic start to the
school year. I trust that parents have seen their children
transition positively into their new classes. A new teacher is
always a change for your child. It is important that if you
have any concerns or just interests regarding your child at
school, you see your child’s teacher (or form teacher) as
soon as you can. It is better to find out all you can to make
the most of every opportunity.
Please make appointments to see your child’s teacher
through the office. The staff member will then get in contact
with you to find a mutually agreeable time to give you the
attention you deserve (this may otherwise be difficult for
you and the teacher in the business of the day).
Staffing Confirmed
Many thanks for your assistance in ensuring your child’s
attendance from the beginning of the year as this has
confirmed our expected staff and classes for 2015.
Help with Lunches
Parents are asked to be mindful of what is provided for your
child in their lunchboxes. If sending fruit, please make sure
students are able to peel it themselves; if sending tinned
food or yoghurt, please make sure there is a fork or spoon to
go with that food; if sending food in any type of container,
please make sure students are able to open the containers
and have utensils to use to eat the food.
Please realise that we do not have the facilities to heat food
for students.
It’s all about attendance
Our attendance target is 95%. This means that on average
each child has less than 1 day away per month. What can
you do to help your child to be ready to learn every day?
Students, if you aren’t at school, chances are you are not
keeping up with your class work. Be at school and learn.
Effective school attendance has been linked to effective
workplace attendance – set your child up for success.
Remember: Ready to Learn Every Day.
this meeting. Queensland Transport expects 70% attendance
of eligible parents.
Expression of Interest- Teacher Aide Positions
As part of our commitment to ensuring a continuity of
service, we are currently looking at expanding our base of
suitable people that we can use to support casual vacancies
and additional hours for intervention that may become
available this year. The position would require candidates to
have obtained or be willing to acquire mandatory employee
related training. Positions will require any candidate to be
willing to work across a Prep to year 10 setting. Flexibility
in hours and days available is also pivotal to meeting our
school’s operational convenience requirements for this job.
Please forward your expression of interest with an attached
resume outlining relevant previous experience and current
referees to: The Principal, by close of business on Monday
February 23, 2015.

How you can help your child with reading
To get your child interested in reading, it’s important to vary
the books you read together and to talk about the types of
material you read each day.
Our school encourages parents to work with us to develop
children’s reading skills. Here are a few tips to get you
started:
 play number plate games in the car by looking at
different number plates and making sentences starting
with the same letters
 encourage children to re-tell stories they have read and
to share these stories with other family members
 when reading to your child, stop and ask “what do you
think will happen next?” and occasionally ask “why do
you think the author included that part in the story?” to
ensure they understand what they are reading
 if your child makes a mistake when they read aloud,
give them time to correct the mistake themselves.

with reading visit www.education.qld.gov.au/parents/map/

Before being connected to a counsellor, callers will be asked
to listen to a recorded message which relays important
information about privacy and disclosure. If a young person
contacts Kids Helpline via email or web, they will be asked
to read through a similar online statement.
The young person will then be connected to a counsellor
who will ask the young person what they would like to talk
about.
The counsellor will ask some questions to help understand
the caller and his/her needs. Young people contacting Kids
Helpline don't have to reveal their name, and the information
discussed will remain confidential, unless we feel that a life
is in danger.

Hat prices have been confirmed and will cost $7 for Junior
Secondary students – this includes an embroidered name.

that the $7 is paid to the office by Friday so the order can be
placed as soon as possible. Thanks Mrs Bartz.
Junior Secondary Homework processes
Unfortunately there is a handful of students who have not
followed through with homework expectations so far this
year. These students will be advised that they are at risk of
drop level processes if they do not show a consistent
improvement by the end of this week.
The focus across our school for this week is Do the Right
Thing.
Intent (what is it all about): Knowing and making
appropriate choices within a context
Assessment calendars
Have you asked your son/daughter about the assessment
calendar yet? It was great to hear a parent last week having
a conversation with her son about the due date for his first
assessment task. More copies are available from Mrs Bartz
if you want one and it has also been uploaded to the school
website.
Evidence (what will we see): Doing the right thing by …..
Following instructions respectfully
