Thought for the Week
‘Some believe it is only
great power that can hold evil
in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is small
everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at
bay … small acts of kindness and love.’ Gandalf in Lord of
the Rings JRR Tolkien
Uniform Convenor: Vacant (many thanks to the marvellous
job done previously by Karen Petersen). If you can help out
with this position, please let an executive member know
The Vice President role has not been filled at this stage. It
would be a great learning role for
someone.
Good News Week
So many wonderful students
doing so many fantastic things –
we don’t want these exemplary
deeds to go unnoticed.
Our staff are on the look out to
share some Good News Postcards
with you ’cause it’s Good News
Week!
Positive Pathways Room
Our school believes that ‘better behaviour equals better
learning’. Students need to be supported in respectful ways
to learn how to behave effectively in the school setting. This
means the active teaching of behaviour expectations,
structuring programs to assist students learn how to meet
expectations and providing consequences that support the
development of the expectations.
The graph below outlines the effect that attendance has on
academic performance for a child on reading performance
on NAPLAN across Queensland. Less attendance = less
performance. Clearly every day counts!
The Positive Pathways Room provides teachers with some
support with students who need some time for responsible
thinking and are not turning their behaviour around in the
classroom.
Positive Pathways is a strategy not a consequence. It is a
strategy to support the student to think responsibly about
their behaviour and develop a plan for re-entry into the
classroom.
Our data has shown that this strategy helps with supporting
students in classes to learn more effectively and students
who are not displaying classroom behaviour to have support
to turn this behaviour around in line with our “Right to
Teach, Right to Learn” focus.
If your child accesses the services of the Positive Pathways
room, you will receive a form letter noting the issue. In this
situation, please contact your child’s class teacher or form
teacher for more details if they have not already contacted
you.

Coping with Anxiety
More from Patrea King on coping with anxiety …

Giving and receiving are the same. Cultivate
relationships where you freely support, collaborate
or cooperate with others. We’ll all get to where we
want to go quicker if we support, encourage and
help one another. If you want to lift yourself up, lift
up someone else. You’ll find that sharing your
insights, time, energy or even just a listening ear
will leave you with a wonderful sense of gratitude
that you were able to contribute in a positive way to
someone else’s life. And what you put out to the
universe will undoubtedly return to you.

Environment is everything! Make sure you put
yourself in good company as our environment is far
more powerful than our willpower. Good company
refers not only to the relationships in your life but
to the music you listen to, the movies/TV you
watch, the environments you put yourself into, the
books you read and your daily rituals. It is better to
have the company of a good book than to diminish
yourself by keeping poor company. Spend time
with people you aspire to emulate. Surround
yourself with positive people. Read about
inspirational/can do people. Find people who
believe in you, will challenge you and inspire you
to do your best. Make sure your environment is
clean and orderly and surround yourself with the
things that uplift your spirit.
