Marketing & Communications Department Internship
The Marketing and Communications Department at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas is seeking
an intern for the Spring 2010 semester. The position is unpaid, but may be available for course credit.
As a BBBS intern, you will be given the opportunity to:










Write press releases, ads, newsletter stories and marketing/promotional materials as needed.
Edit and update website copy; Review web copy for clarity, accuracy and style.
Develop content for print and online community calendars and update on a regular basis. (ie:
Austin Chronicle, Austin Family, KUT, News 8).
Research print and online media outlets for BBBS marketing efforts.
Monitor and update agency social networking tools such as Facebook; research other useful
networking applications.
Assist with volunteer recruitment efforts; Increase BBBS community awareness.
Assist with planning/coordination of BBBS events.
Serve as volunteer at events benefitting BBBS.
Fulfill clerical projects, as needed.
Contribute to other communications projects as assigned.
In addition to everyday workload, efforts are made towards educating interns about the organization as a
whole through meetings, events, and other opportunities.
Internship Qualifications:
Applicant must be a part-time or full-time student working toward a degree in Communications,
Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.









Exceptional communications skills.
Exceptional grammar, spelling and punctuation. Familiarity with Associated Press Style.
Copy editing experience and/or proficiency.
Experience with Facebook, Twitter and other social networking tools preferred.
Available to work on a committed weekly schedule with a minimum of 16 hours a week for at least
three months during 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. office hours. Available for minimal evening/weekend
work as well.
Reliable transportation.
Ability to organize time, set priorities, and work under pressure while paying attention to detail.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
Outgoing, personable and confident demeanor.
