MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Facilities Project Manager / Maintenance Planner
Physical Plant was an in-house design-build group, doing construction, remodeling, renovation
and maintenance projects. Met with my clients to determine Scope of Work for the projects.
Estimated/budgeted 100% of my projects. Designed and specified 75% of my projects, reviewed
and consulted with A/E on other 25%. Once funded, approved, I planned the projects, and
created the project schedules. Analyzed specifications, made material take-offs, reported high
demand on stock materials, ordered specialty and long lead-time items. Negotiated some price
quotes and vendor deliveries, recommended PO award and coordinated material deliveries.
Sole contact point for clients, departments, administration, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and UT craftsmen. Supervised projects from start to finish for compliance with design,
schedule, workmanship, material quality, safety and construction methods. Updated schedules
as needed to finish projects on time. Submitted reports, wrote correspondence and developed
punch list. With 6-14 simultaneous projects, completed $2-2.5M in summer projects and $5-6M
for the year. Completed projects totaling $93M over 17.5 years. Supervised the work of over
100 subcontract and UT craftsmen on projects. Introduced MS Excel into the department for
estimating, Computer Aided Design, and Project Management software. This improved estimate
efficiency, project on time delivery, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.
Maintenance projects included; painting, flooring, replace HVAC, automatic doors, energy
efficient lighting upgrades, lead/asbestos abatement, ect. Largest renovation projects were remodeling half of 2 floors in Painter Hall a research building, $725K in 1983 ($1.45M now) and 2
floors of SRH School of Public Affairs Library, $650K in 1984 ($1.27M now). Renovation and
remodeling included: Administrative offices. Athletic and Recreational sports facilities;
Architectural, Dance, Film, Radio and TV Studios; Auditoriums; Automotive Service Center; Call
Center; Classrooms; Clean Rooms; Computer Labs; Data Processing, Phone Switching; Food
Service facilities; Libraries. Medical facilities in Student Health Center and School of Nursing;
Photographic labs and Darkrooms; Newspaper and Printing pressrooms; Retail Sales facilities;
Scientific and Engineering labs; Telephone Switching room; UT Police Department; and added
39 bells to the UT Tower Carillon. Environmental projects were; asbestos and lead abatement,
remodeling Haz-Mat storage areas, removal and clean-up of leaking underground gas tanks.
