POOL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Failure to observe these instructions or any breach of a rule or regulation will
empower the lifeguard to disbar the swimmer from the pool. The lifeguard must be obeyed at
all times. Reports of such conduct will be forwarded to the F&S Dir. at the earliest opportunity.
2. All users will comply with the rules regarding personal hygiene, which are displayed in the
dressing rooms.
3. Male and female users of the pool will use their respective rooms, which will be clearly
marked. Families will use the family change room. Children 5 years old and under are
permitted in the change room of the accompanying parent.
4. Swimmers MUST take a shower before entering the water.
5. Children 5 yrs and younger must be accompanied “in the water” by a parent
or guardian (14 or older) also children 6 to 10 yrs of age, (who cannot swim
the width of the main pool) must be accompanied in the water by a parent or
guardian (14 or older). Supervision of non-swimmers includes both the big
pool and wading pool. If the child can swim and is over 10, the parent or
guardian must be in the facility. A guardian can only supervise 3 at a time.
6. Outdoor footwear is NOT permitted on the pool deck, except for flip flops. Appropriate
clothing must also be worn on the deck (ie: no outdoor clothing, must be clean, pants rolled up,
etc). Kit bags and extra personal clothing are not permitted on the pool deck. Please use a
locker.
7. PFD users must have a parent or guardian within arms’ reach at ALL times.
8. Swimmers are allowed in the deep end if they are able to swim one width of the pool unassisted
or if wearing a lifejacket with a parent or guardian within arms’ reach at all times.
9. All swimmers will familiarize themselves with the emergency signals posted on the notice
boards and obey these at all times.
10. Running is strictly forbidden anywhere on the pool deck.
11. No roughhousing or boisterous play is permitted in the pool.
12. Infants and toddlers will wear a plastic training pant over a diaper or swimmer's diapers while
in the swimming pool.
13. Absolutely NO Food/Gum/Glass (other than water in an unbreakable container) is permitted
on the pool deck.
14. People with communicable diseases (colds, flu, diarrhea, open sores, unhealed cuts, etc) are
NOT permitted in the pool.
15. Pool noodles and toys are NOT permitted in the deep end of the main pool.
16. Parent and Tots swim is for adults with children ages 4 and under.
17. Adult lane swim is for swimmers ages 18 or older (exceptions made upon approval with
Aquatics Supervisor).
DIVING BOARD RULES:

a)
One person on the diving board at a time.
b)
Inward diving is not permitted. Swimmers must jump straight off the end of the diving
board (not to side).
c)
One bounce entry only.
d)
Swimmers must avoid swimming under the diving board.
e)
Diving blocks are not to be used except during Club activities.
f)
No pushing or shoving near or around the diving board.
g)
Dive then swim immediately to the right-hand side of the pool.
h)
No person shall dive in until the individual before him or her has emerged to the surface
and cleared the diving area.
i)
Front and back flips and back dives are not permitted.
RULES FOR THE FLOATING MATS:

a)
Standing on mats is not permitted.
b)
Swimming under the mats is not permitted.
c)
Mats must be kept away from the sides of the pool while people are on them.
d)
Swimmers must avoid flipping the mats.
e)
Mats may be put away if misused, swimmer numbers are large or the guard is
uncomfortable with their use.
f)
Swimmers are prohibited to jump onto the mats from the edge of the pool.
RULES FOR THE WATERSLIDE:

a)
Only one person at a time on the slide.
b)
Swimmers must wait until swimmer exits bottom of the slide before entering at the top.
The area at the bottom must be clear.
c)
Swim immediately out of the way for the next user.
d)
Non-swimmer must have a parent or guardian waiting for him/her at the bottom of the
slide (to the side) or must go down the slide sitting on the lap of a parent or guardian.
HYGIENE AND SANITATION RULES:

The following rules regarding personal hygiene are laid down in CFAO 34-38 and will be
strictly adhered to by all users of the pool:
a)
All persons using the swimming pool must take a shower, using warm
water and soap, before entering the pool.
b)
All bathers using the washroom facility must shower before entering or reentering the pool.
c)
Persons having any skin disease, sores, inflamed eyes, cold, nasal or ear
discharges, or any communicable disease will not be allowed in the pool.
d)
No glass containers or food items are permitted in the pool area or
changing area.
e)
Smoking is forbidden in the F & S Centre, including outside the main entrance.
