SAFE SOAP
Purpose: To make soap from fat and a base. To test the homemade soap against factory
made soaps in terms of their pH, solubility and the amount of suds produced.
Procedure:
 Weigh out 1.22 grams of NaOH and grind it with a mortar and pestle
 Measure out 10.0 ml of oil and add to the NaOH in a cup
 Compare your soap with the manufactured soap in regards to pH, solubility, and
the height of suds. Record your results in a data table.
 Set up 4 sample of the following: oil and water, soap + oil and water, soap with
water and soap + CaCl2 and water. Compare the solubility and the height if the
suds. Record your results in a table.
