THE 2006 ROUND HURON
500 MILE RACE
4th Bi-annual
An International Long Distance Sailing
Challenge on Lake Huron.
Crew is limited to two persons
Yacht sizes range from 24 to 70 feet
PHILOSOPHY OF THE ROUND HURON
This race is offered to those sailors who want more
Doublehanded Sailing than what is currently offered
anywhere on the Great Lakes.
It is not meant to replace the Huron Challenge
but rather to complement it.
Managed by the Doublehanded Sailing Association
Race Committee with the support of SYC, PEYC
and Rogers City. Governed by “The Racing Rules Of
Sailing 2005-2008” as adopted by USSA and the
Sailing Instructions
CREW / BOAT ELIGIBILITY
Crews range from Husband/Wife, Parent/Child, Best
Friends to Hardcore Racers. Entrants must detail
their sailing experience. Subject to review. Each
entrant (skipper) must have 1000 miles sailing
experience as a skipper and must have made one
non-stop passage of at least 100 miles under sail,
requiring a passage time of not less than 24 hours.
Yachts must be well found offshore capable yachts
that comply with required equipment list.
The Race Committee reserves the right to admit
or refuse any applicant.

PROGRAM OF EVENTS
Sarnia Starting Line

for Updates on the status of Leg #2 & #3.
First Leg (Huron Challenge Goderich
Course): From starting line proceed on direct
course to Goderich turning mark, leave it to
port, then proceed directly to the finish line at
Rogers City Harbor. (196 miles)
Second Leg: After a layover; start outside
Rogers City harbor. Proceed To the 2 nd Leg
*finish line at Port Elgin, Canada.
*Third Leg:
Fleets will restart after
approximately 24 hours and proceed directly to
Sarnia, Canada for the finish.
*The Race Committee reserves the right to
change the course as needed but will not
change the Sarnia start/finish line location.
Note: By entering this 500 mile race, you will also
be entered into the 22nd annual Huron
Doublehanded Challenge (Leg #1) which also starts
at Sarnia, Canada and finishes at Rogers City,
Michigan (a race within a race). You will also be
eligible to win any awards / flags offered in that race.

FEES: ENTRY / DEADLINE / LATE

STRUCTURE OF RACING CLASSES
The Round Huron Race in 2004 will be scored
as a stage race consisting of Time on Distance
PHRF handicapping of each of the three legs.
The three scores will be used with the low point
scoring system to determine final standings. All
boats are to provide a valid PHRF certificate
with application. Failure to do so shall result in
a rating determined by the race committee.
Entry fee shall be *$275 U.S. funds. Entry
application must be postmarked by June
6th. Fee shall be *$315 U.S. if postmarked
after that date. This fee includes entry into
the Huron Challenge.
Skipper / Crew
Dinners and Breakfast included in entry fee.

The deadline for submitting applications is
June 15th or when the limit of 100 entries is
reached.

Add $26.00 if you are not a member of the
U.S. Sailing Association.
